The gambas al ajill were excellent and so flavorful. Perfectly prepared and specialty of the house, although a tad expensive at 11 euros. Very traditional setting in a no nonsense dining space. Worth a visit.

A small tavern in the center of Madrid. Great shrimp! I want to note the dish: squid on the grill - just fantastic! I advise you to take a white wine Abuelo - just super! (on the picture ) . Be sure to stop here...More

I rarely if ever write negative reviews but I do feel compelled to write this review in an attempt to alert people to stay away from this place which is dreadful. It is a tourist trap, no ambience, ok food, super rude and disinterested servers....More

After walking through Plaza Mayor, we found this small cafe, that was not busy and inexpensive menu du jour. The beer was cold and the gazpacho turned out to be the best we had during our trip. We returned the next day for lunch and...More

The restaurant was so good we visited it twice for evening dinner. A super Tapas Bar serving tradition Tapas and Spanish food. The restaurant is very old with original grape pattern tiles decorating the dining rooms. The place is full of locals which shows how...More

Three bars all close together. Great tapas specialising in seafood. Excellent, lively atmosphere. Good wines and attentive service.

Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street
performers, colorful lights, window shopping,
restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and
churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a
collection of plazas interconnected by a network of
side streets. Some of these side streets are wide
pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so
it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as

No, at all. I don't think they accept reservations anyway. In the worst case, you can always go to other locations which are very close - around 2 minutes by walk.

La Casa del Abuelo is one of the Tapas Bars that you can't miss if you visit Madrid. This house is more than 100 years old and it's one of the most representative Taverns in Madrid. Specialities are shrimps in all of its varieties: grilled, with coarse salt and looking for the prefect cooking point and garlic shrimps, served in our terracotta casseroles with virgin olive oil, garlic and parsley. The tradition is to eat the shrimps with the red sweet wine "El Abuelo" that made this house famous. Today everything is served the same way than 100 years ago!
