We found this restaurant on a website. It was a great find!! We ordered the prix fixe. We started the lentil soup. It was a generous portion. Rich and fragrant! Then we had the peppers and minced meat. It had a real kick. We were using a spoon by the end. The bread was warm (yum) when it came out.... More

Juan was a wonderful waiter. We drank some wonderful Spanish wine and tasted a few traditional dishes. We loved viewing the matador bull fighting paintings and photos. Our favorite dish was the oxtail followed by the veal meatballs. A fun family evening.

A small traditional restaurant, this is not a place that is made for tourists. It is an authentic Spanish restaurant with great cuisine and service. Our waiter Fernando was very helpful, he recommended a great bottle of Rioja. We tried the tortilla de patatas, the ibérico ham and manchego cheese. All excellent. This place's specialty is breaded hits fish. Excellent,... More

Hemingway used to dine here and you can see why. Old school, classy, and delicious. We had the blood sausage, croquettas, ox tail, breaded hake, and fried milk. All spectacularly delicious. The ox tail and hake were especially good. As was the gin and tonic. Delicious. Just a great place to dine and to get a nice morsel of what... More

I came here by recommandation of my friend. The food was brilliant. One of the best places to go for dining. I have to say that their staff is really good and friendly. The food was beautifully cooked. Interior of Casa Salavadore is interesting. For me that was totally new but I loved it. See you again for sure...

This was an Anthony Bourdain recommendation, so we wanted to try it. The place is quaint with photos of Hemingway and other famous people and the food unusual. Our most memorable dessert of fried milk was had here. Good to try it out!

Attentive staff, intimate atmosphere, wonderfully prepared entrees and a complementary Grappa combined for a dining experience to remember. Casa Salvador will not dissapoint.

This was a really interesting place. The walls are adorned with some stunning pictures of bullfighters through the ages both inside and outside the ring. In fact I wouldn't have been surprised if one walked in wearing all the garb and regalia whilst I was having dinner. The food was beautifully cooked in proper Spanish style and the service was... We ate here three years ago and enjoyed the ambience and food so much that we decided to return on this trip. It was as though we were in a time warp. Nothing had changed. The décor was the same; the lighting was the same; the waiters were the same. Of course this is a good thing, since we like... More

This has been a superb restaurant for decades. A hangout for Matadors and those who follow them, it also has excellent classic dishes of Madrid. The walls are covered with photos of Matadors from many years past. It was, of course, a haunt of Hemmingway who introduced Ava Gardner to it. Ms. Gardner was known to dance on its tables.... More

Staying in Chueca

Neighbourhood Profile
Chueca
Chueca is the hip, gay neighbourhood of Madrid where many of the streets are narrow and intimate, but where the hustle and bustle and the eclectic storefronts and people give it a distinctly urban feel. The main thoroughfare is Calle Hortaleza and the main square is Plaza Chueca, completely filled with terraza tables serving copas (mixed drinks) during summer. A mixture of trendy and grungy, some of the adult businesses here are explicitly racy in their signage. From the rainbow flags to the signs above the entrances of its many funky bars, to the date spot restaurants, Chueca is a vibrant and colorful place. It's always interesting to explore the different corners of Chueca by day, and by night, the area becomes a major nightlife destination when the clubs open their doors.
