This review is long overdue. We had one of the most memorable meals I've ever had in my life at this restaurant. We went in November and were the only customers in the entire restaurant. This was a little disconcerting but we were very quickly put at ease. Every dish on the tasting menu was unique and full of flavour.... More

This restaurant doesn´t have à la carte dining and only offers two different tasting menus. This is rather unusual and customers should be advised when making a reservation. Of the two tasting menus one is extremely limited so most people opt for the second more expensive one. One can value the obvious effort to come up with original dishes but... More

I enjoyed Lieu's relaxed ambience, however I wasn't impressed by the food. I felt the duck, which was the central ingredient in two of the dishes, had too much protagonism in the tasting menu: and I would have liked to see more originality, particularly in the desserts (the chocolate coulant was extremely boring). The cucumber carpaccio with parmesan cream was... More

The first thing I would like to say about Lieu is that I have no hesitation to highly recommend this restaurant. It combines everything that one might want from a restaurant. Excellent location in the historic centre of Madrid close to the palace and the opera. The ambience perfect with a relaxing background music. The owners and the waiters make... More

I was lucky enough to experience the tasting menu at Lieu with the accompanying wine selection. It was definitely one of the best dining experiences I have had to date. The food was excellent, the service exemplary (having a drink after the meal with the owners was the icing on the cake) and compared to similar restaurants the experience was... More

Wonderful food, wonderful service : a magical evening. Because of demonstrations in Madrid that night we had the restaurant to ourselves. I was with my beautiful daughter who loves food: this was her first tasting menu....lucky girl, cos it does'nt get much better than this. We were treated like royalty : the maestro even sat down and discussed our meal... More

The standard of the cuisine and service was sublime! Excellent wine choice, all reasonably priced for the level of what you got! Yes, it's not cheap, but please consider it! Excellent touches, as H20 given gratis and the addition of an amuse bouché at the start and petit fours at the end .... Try the selection of artisan cheeses, I'll... More

I simply would not have found this hidden treasure if it wasn't for the reviews (and ranking) on Trip Advisor. It wasn't easy to find as local laws limit their ability to market themselves (signage wise) and i walked past it twice before a helpful local showed me the entrance. I decided to spoil myself and went with the the... More

I was delighted by the results Lieu achieved when I visited. Fantastic chicken, a beautifully prepared salad and a lovely chocolate desert. Then there was the canapé, an aperitif, the perfectly made martini and the great staff. Highly recommended.

Neighbourhood Profile
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
