Great variety for the lowest of prices. That said, the montaditos could do with more filling. A noisy, touristy watering hole.

This is a gem of a place for those on a budget. It's self-service, your orders are broadcast on the tannoy, people squeezed onto tiny tables, buzzing with conversation, all in all a great atmosphere full of locals. Their small bites are excellent. Almost everything is 1 or 2 euro, and as a family of 5 we had a couple... More

By far the cheapest place to eat and drink in Madrid. Right by Plaza Mayor. Not the best Atmosphere but for €1.50 pints of beer that can slide. Staff are friendly and most speak good English. George was particularly attentive and went the extra mile. We will be back!!!

I can start by saying... I wish they had a 100 montaditos in London! Fantastic place! We went on a sunday as we noticed the €1 deal. We had a great dinner for €10! I defo recommend the bacon chips with bacon and cheese, yummy!! Bear in mind that this deal is on Sundays and Wednesday and the place gets... More

Delicious snacks to enjoy with beer or Tinto de Verano. It's easy and good to relax and have some simple food at anytime.

Montaditos is the best place where we've eat my friends and I in our trip to madrid, the menus are so delicious and cheap, you can eat as much as you want with good prices. The atmosphere is great, and the system of the order is very different, you write your order in a paper and you wait the chef... More

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
