We visited this place thanks to Nico and Adrian, and we spent nice time there. I can tell that we need workers like them, so guys if you are reading this...you will easily find a job in Split/Croatia ;)

Great little restaurant with good service and great dishes from Spain. We had raciones from different parts of Spain that were served with great local wine and to be able to sit outside in October on a lovely warm evening enjoying the company and food such as jamon iberico, pulpo galleta and mejilliones was fantastic. Highly recommended!

We stumbled across this restaurant as we were headed for Plaza Major and knew we wanted to avoid eating there. We had white wine and 3 tapas to share. Albondigas wonderful as was the Brie on toast with Jan. The grilled artichokes were just ok. Good wait staff and nice atmosphere.

Service was good, the sangria was good, the location is excellent, but the paella was mostly only rice and had almost no seafood in it at all! It was mostly rice, with the very least amount of seafood that you could put into the dish and still call it a paella and not just a bowl of flavored rice.

We arrived after midnight when many other restaurants around suprisingly started to close. Here we got some drinks and ate some very good Tortilla, maybe the best we had so far in whole spain. Nice location and friendly staff, nothing to complain about from our side.

The restaurant is situated on one of the small street near the plaza mayor. Very good atmosphere to take a cold beer or cold sangria with some fresh tapas. The dishes are good and tasty. The service is like it should be, fast, attentive, smiling with good advises. The prices are little bit expensive for tapas. Anyway you can enjoy... More

We spent ages looking for a place to eat in the evening and by chance came across La Carboneria. The food was tasty and packed with flavour, the sangria was the best we've had so far in Madrid. Nico, our waiter, was funny, welcoming and recommended various bits and pieces. Overall a very merry night was had here!

This is a cozy nice place! It is a warm feeling you will get used to. Menu is short but well done. Walking around, we spotted this place and went there for a drink and tapas. So good we found this hidden awesome place!!! We had meat balls and stewed chickpeas with beef tripes with local red wine, yum yum!!!... More

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
