Unplanned walking past and thought we would give it a go. The ambiance is amazing, from the decorative Moroccan tiled walls to the ornate ceilings. The tables and other furniture further complimented the Moroccan influence. Service staff were attentive, providing recommendations and advice. Menu was in English but required further translation. The food was amazing, with the lamb and vegetable... More

AlMounia has been at this location for over 30 years and it was a pleasure to return for a family lunch. Excellent mezzo followed by lamb and chicken tajine and couscous. Average cost 30€/pax.

Its a shame that TA doesn't have 'good' only 'average' and 'very good' because this place fills that category perfectly. I've been going there for over 20 years, well, actually to be precise, and went once 20 years ago, and visited last week! The place is amazing inside and reminds you of the Alhambra Palace, it's decorated to such a... More

We walked in for lunch at 2pm on a Saturday with no reservation. We were seated without issue along a lovely wall sofa with a big copper table in front of us, admiring the carved wooden walls and ceiling features. The whole ambience was plush, dimmed lighting moroccan/moorish which was quite nice. Although quiet at 2pm by 3pm it was... More

Authentic food and decor with a relaxing ambience. The star of the show was the pastella, which was delicious. Too bad it's not offered as a main dish! The mixed entradas plate (like an arabian mezze) was quite nice although the hummus and the flat bread left a little to be desired. The couscous with lamb was a very good... More

Excellent food, great service, nice atmosphere. We had lunch. I ate meat, my companion had a vegetarian plate. Both very tasty and healthy. No complaints.

Quiet and relaxed atmosphere, with excellent service, always attentive and not interfering. The meals a bit "soft" in taste, but with good ingredients and preparation. The best place in Madrid to enjoy original Moroccan meals, without the noise and not being cramped as in other North African restaurants in Madrid. With ClubKviar we got 30% off the bill, this resulting... More

This is the best Moroccan restaurant in Madrid. I like going here every time I am in Madrid visiting the family. It is expensive, but it is totally worth it. I have been eating here for the last 25 years and changed owners a couple of times. They don't take AMEX.

Staying in Barrio de Salamanca

Neighbourhood Profile
Barrio de Salamanca
Broad, tree-lined avenues with pretty streetlights frame the neighbourhood of Barrio Salamanca. With beautiful condominium buildings that make up most blocks in this area, this part of town is refined and quiet. It is also host to a few of the city's large shopping avenues, including Calle Serrano and Calle Jose Ortega y Gasset. A walk down these streets will reveal upscale chains, small boutiques, and plenty of opportunities for shopping or checking out the stylish displays. The locals here are polished and fashionable, the atmosphere is leisurely, and the lush Retiro Park on the southern border is yet another opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. A stroll through Barrio Salamanca is all about admiring the beautiful architecture, window-shopping, and people-watching in this upper-crust corner of Madrid.
