We stayed at the Melia Princess Madrid and they recommended eating here so we went and were very happy we did. For a starter we had a mixed salad followed by entrecote. We couldn't resist and had profiteroles for dessert all accompanied by 2 glasses of great red wine. It wasn't overpriced and I wish we were staying longer so... More

My husband and I had a wonderful meal in this locals frequented restaurant off Calle Princesa. Warm room, tablecloths and nice glassware. Started with white asparagus in a sauce with some marjoram, then we each had one of those hugely expensive shellfish--sort of like a large langoustine, but I forget the name--that our waiter showed to us before ordering. So... More

I went there quite late on a Saturday night and it was almost full. The most of the customers seemed to be local. The food was delicious and service nice even if the most of the staff didn't speak English. I'd recommend ordering several half portions instead of one large. If there are several persons, order large portions to share... More

Next to the Mercure hotel, opens for dinner at 8 PM. Friendly staff with good English, interesting choices on menu. Dishes well cooked and nicely presented, not overpriced. Was a good choice for dinner near Plaza de Espana.

I love Basque cuisine and decided to visit this place after seeing it was ranked in the top two Basque restaurants in Madrid. The setting was cozy and the service was fast. However, the food was only average and highly overpriced. The staff is rather cold and our waitress had a forbidding attitude, regardless of how kind you would be... More

Staying in Arguelles

Neighbourhood Profile
Just south of the sprawling campus of the Complutense University of Madrid, Arguelles exudes a fast-paced, collegiate vibe. The main street, Calle Princesa, is filled with twenty-somethings rushing between classes and errands, meeting up with classmates, and grabbing cheap beers and cheap eats. This is a prime shopping spot where the major Spanish clothing and department store chains are less busy than their downtown counterparts, and there is an array of casual dining options to choose from. Check out nearby outdoor spaces such as the lushly planted Plaza de España to the south, which is often filled with craft stalls. To the west of Arguelles is the giant Parque Oueste, a calm and picturesque park with its own Egyptian temple.
