Three friends, two with Coealic Disease. We had a had a GF fresh beer and a few GF tapas, with our special bread. It was good, the average of what you get for what you pay is pretty decent. The place is small, crowded and noisy, mostly if you go there on a Friday evening like we did, but as... More

Suckling pig roasted to perfection presented atop a bed of sliced potatoes and onions--the bronze crispy skin so succulent and most moist and tender meat that practically melted in your mouth. The portion served was more than enough for my wife and myself. I would recommend the Spanish asparagus--whole stalks drizzled in olive oil roasted to a firm tenderness--simple and... More

Having the chance to visit this place made my wife and I happy we missed our connecting flight to Amsterdam! It was a little intimidating at first because our Spanish is fairly poor and it was pretty obvious that this bar was not tailored for English speaking tourists. However, as soon as we found a place at the bar and... More

My husband and I happened upon El Neru. The ground level bar was packed -- so we decided to give it a try. We were seated in one of the dining rooms downstairs, which was also pretty full. There was a huge screen TV showing a soccer game with no sound. We enjoyed ourselves very much. The bread comes with... More

We were a little skeptical on our first visit as we were guided downstairs and through 3 or 4 dining rooms to the last one nearest the kitchen. But we so enjoyed our first meal we went back later! Both times we ordered the Fabada Asturiana (Asturian bean stew with sausage) and on our second visit the suckling pig, both... More

We visited the restaurant at the end of September on a Saturday for lunch. We were looking for a place to eat and by pure chance we found the Neru. My husband had Fabada Asturiana since they advertised it as the "best", and it was really delicious. I had a fish called Pixin recommended by the people sitting next to... More

The concierge at our hotel recommended El Neru as the most authentic Asturiano cuisine in Madrid. It was one of the best dinners we had on our 10 day trip through Spain. You enter at street level to a bar and are led downstairs through a series of small dining rooms. We started with the Empanada Asturia, which is a... More

Good ambiance and great service. Food was really mediocre for me, meat was prepared well but was either too bland or too salty, Octopus and potatoes was ok. Only standout for me was the been with meat stew which was exceptional, beans were melit in the mouth and the meat was really flavorful. I nice experience but not a must... More

Traditional family run restaurant in Madrid specializing in Asturian food. I got the feeling of home cooked meals. Food was very good and service was excellent.

I've been living in Madrid for 4 years and this is one of my favorite restaurants in Madrid. We come here at least once a month. The workers are very kind and always treat us well. We like to bring family and friends who are visiting here. The cider is great. Sometimes they will put a pouring machine inside which... More

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
