This place is tucked away [actually underground] across the street from 5 star Hotel Orfila. We dined a little early [10 p.m.] so nobody was there yet. Everything was top notch-- the decor has real tapestries and copies of Velazquez paintings. We had a light meal-- my beet gazpacho was incredible! The bread, butter and pate were transcendental. Husband ordered... More

Traditional Spanish cuisine, for meat lovers a real treat, one of the best steak meals I have had. The decor, service, meal and wine were first class. Being my first visit to Spain found it interesting that the kitchen opened at 21:00 which was novel for me, definitely worth the wait. One very pleased carnivore at the end of the... More

A stalwart on the Madrid scene the Nouveau Moderne elegance of this steakhouse is only second to the high-level of service, quality of food and wine. The best callos in my memory, massive dry-aged steaks perfectly cooked, exquisite tableside service and attention to detail.

What I like about this place is its constant respect of traditional Spanish cuisine. As a result I tend to go there regularly to taste delicious meats. It is a great place for traditional family meals as well as business meals. The place's decoration is magical and extremely true to Spanish culinary culture.

Las Reses is a high-end traditional spanish restaurant in Madrid. Very elaborate extremely high quality cuisine, traditional, not innovative or 'fusion' as more modern cuisine is called nowadays. The ambience has an old Madrid flavour and it is beautifully furnished. Don't miss the Villadiego tenderloin, extraordinary meat specialty of the house.

Great place to eat delicious meats, hence the name of the restaurant. But they also serve some fish and other delicious plates for the less carnivorous people. The staff is very pleasant and the service was impeccable. Overall a very good quality/price ratio. The only downside is the area as it is located in the financial district. I will advise... More

You can even only go to this restaurant to see its decoration. It was lovely. Regarding the meals, meat particularly, they were delicious but really oversized. I thought the waiter was kidding when he told me that the steaks were around 1 kg! It turned out to be he was not kidding. I could only eat two fifths of the... More

This is a top class restaurant. Located on a quiet strret near Serrano. Specialty is steaks, but plenty of other dishes including seafood. We loved the white asparagus! A very friendly, traditional, family run restaurant. Beautiful inside! Filled with antiques and old paintings. Nice wine cellar. Very Romantic. Ask for a tour, they are genuinely interested in showing the preservation of... More

This was a pleasant find. Across the street from the Hotel Orfila is a great " meat" restaurant. We chose it after a very long day of walking in Madrid and liked it some much we returned the following evening. They do an excellent job preparing all types of meat dishes accompanied by very tasty starters. The only warning is... More

Staying in Chamberi

Neighbourhood Profile
Chamberi
Multi-story residential buildings decorated with ornate balconies line the traditional, quiet, and pretty streets of Chamberí. Humble storefronts and neighbourhood taverns are scattered across the lower levels down every block, and here and there, there's a cluster of tables on the sidewalk. It isn't ever crowded, but people are always out, poking into the tiny bakeries, hardware stores, and tobacco shops, or ducking into a bright, unadorned cerveceria to have a coffee or beer by the bar, flip through the paper, and check the sports score. The round Plaza Olavide, where the fairly regular network of streets breaks form, is among the most green and lively spots. Restaurants line its circumference and sought-after outdoor tables fill the center of the plaza, where people relax to the sounds of kids playing and street musicians' tunes.
