This is a place crowded with locals. The size of the portions are enormous. Deliscious but nothing extra in taste or service but all correct.

We wanted to try some Spanish cider on our trip to Madrid and really enjoyed the Asturias cider here. We were warmly welcomed and even given a little bowl of food (chorizo/olives etc) with our drinks, which seemed rather generous given that we had only spent 3 euros on two glasses of cider!

I like pig meat and especially in Spain. This is the kind of restaurants where you can taste different dishes and variant of Jamon.

A colleague from Madrid office booked this restaurant for our team dinner. The food was great and also the local cider. They bring you a bottle with a special valve to serve it to your glass with pressure and you need to drink it in a few minutes. Price wise was also OK. I fully recommend it

Nothing particularly creative, just good solid Andalucian food. The bean casseroles are their claim to fame, and we tried two different ones, both delicious. Good wine list. Good service. Solid.

El Escarpin was just a short distance from or hotel and we visited there every day we were in Madrid. The atmosphere was friendly, the food was very good, and the prices were vsry reasonable. On those hot days in Madrid in July we managed to drink cider, Sangria and wine in this cool and comfortable restaurant before making the... More

Cosy and simple restaurant with asturian decor. Huge portions but quite pricey. Excellent fish (monkfish for example). Good bread with tasty appetizers. This is also sidrería (cider restaurant). You can order natural asturian cider with "aerator". Very good also. Very central location, not far away from Puerta del Sol and few steps from calle Arenal.

Visiting Madrid I was curious to visit an "Asturian Cider House" and I decided to have this experience in El Escarpin. I just drunk a couple of glasses of sidra and ate a classical tapas offered by the house (olives, tuna and potatoes - really good). The sidra was good and also the staff was nice. The price was really... More

It's a very nice and modern restaurant with more of an Austrian look. To slick for me but I was looking for more of an authentic flare. However the food was amazing! I recommend to order chorizo a la sidra as an appetizer if you love chorizo, and share a Cachopo, the house specialty. They serve sidra in different ways... More

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
