Based on the reviews here in TripAdvisor I chose El Gaucho for my first dinner in Madrid and once again our fellow travelers reviews were proven absolutely spot on. We ordered the Argentinean mix for 2, baked potatoes, grilled peppers and a Mediterranean salad. All were excellent ! The service was very discreet and attentive and the quality and quantity... Husband and I were walking around looking for a place to eat. We looked at the menu on the outside of the restaurant and I saw the TripAdvisor logo. I said let's go in. What a place. First they gave us a glass of champagne, cheese, and crackers, (at the beginning and at the end of the meal lemon sorbet,... More

We had a very fine evening dining here. I ordered the steak and my companion the fish with a very nice salad to share. Complimentary spiced pumpkin soup is provided along with crisp bread and soft cheese before your steak arrives. The steak was fabulous although a slight confusion with the potatoes which were listed as roast but a baked... More

Nice welcome. Chanced upon El Gaucho, while strolling around the Puerta de Sol area. Was wowed by the spot-on service, and especially the extra nice touches of complimentary champagne, sorbet, and a great little jug of Bailey's to top off dessert and cafe con leche. Pasta entrees also very good. Did not realize the good folks who run it were... More

Ribeye was great. This was the main point of going there... Jacket potato and mixed salad - ok. Pre and list meal treats were all very good, so was the house Rioja and coffee. Not cheap, but this I knew.

Just to good. When you tire of seafood this is the place to go. Atmosphere , service and food quality where amazing. You will not regret this choice. Meat is the choice and there are many to chose from. We walked in with no reservation. Enjoy.

This white-tablecloth restaurant specializes in grilled meats from Argentina. On our first visit we shared the grilled flank steak -- normally a stewing cut -- which was tasty though chewy, as well as a salad and vegetable (all al la carte). On our second visit we shared the grilled rib-eye steak, which they serve sliced. It melted in our mouths!... More

Four of us arrived early evening and we shared two fillet steaks, which arrived sliced and cooked to perfection. Excellent meat and really delicious. Totally recommend this place. Service was excellent as well, from our Moroccan waiter.

At the front of the establishment is the grill or Parrilla where customers can sit and dine at the bar as food is cooked in front of you. However eating at the rear of the restaurant is a wonderful experience of great food and polite service in what is an elegant and characterful dining room. Dozens of black & white... More

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
