Adventurous, that's best to describe eating at La Refugia. A small restaurant with friendly staff serve delicious food. Sardines marinated in soy sauce were a great choice. Pork in a peanut/sateh sauce was not Asian but Mediterranean. And who would have thought about ice cream with smoked cheese? All in all a very nice experience. Certainly recommended.

Not all restaurants have a flashy front door, and definitivt not this one. Passing in the daylight you will have doubts. However, do not let this stop you from visiting for a fantastic meal in the evening. Our food was excellent and served with a perfect wine match. The staff was kind and helpfull and made very good choises for... More

I will start with the dessert: smoked cheese ice cream with garam massala cookies, dates and tamarind chutney! Just unforgettable. Fusion dishes with creativity and respect to the ingridients, one of the best eating experiences I have ever had

Tucked away in the glorious back streets of Valencia, this is one of my favourite restaurants anywhere. Their motto is a Cooking Revolution and this is a good thing. They try different things and it works well !! I wont say more other than when I go Valencia, a highlight of my trip is Refugio.

The place is very small and a bit squashed and important to book a table. The owner is very friendly and welcoming. There was an interesting choice of dishes, three starters, three mains and three desserts. All sounded delicious. I chose secreto of pork as my main and was disappointed as I was expecting a chunk of meat not grizzle... More

The food at Refugio was so different and amazing. The food had an amazing twist between Spanish and Japanese food which worked so well. This place is a must to try out for anyone visiting Valencia.

I've visited El Refugio twice, once for dinner and most recently for lunch. The restaurant is very conveniently situated in the Cathedral area and it's full character. The decor is nicely downbeat and the lunch set menu is reasonably priced and quite delicious. They catered for a large family dinner the last time I was there, and provided a delicious... More

Came here with the family one afternoon. This is the kind of place you want to keep secret all for yourself. First it is great value for what you get. The service is really good, warm and welcoming. Order a gin and tonic and you will be measuring every subsequent one against for the rest of your life against it... More

Cod and tuna main courses were really good. Fine white wine, friendly service. All in all a very good restaurant.

Unprepossessing looking place, so nearly didn't go in until looked at menu outside. Friendly efficient service with very enjoyable, I suppose untypical (to me) Spanish food. Delicious mesclun salad shared to start, husband had fabulous hunk of tuna with black rice, absolutely delicious and I don't normally like tuna! I had oven roasted cod with fennel and citrus which was... More

Restaurante del Carmen in the historic quarter of Valencia is known for its seasonal cooking with high quality ingredients, careful presentation, friendly and informal service and its excellent value for money. All of the dishes are made in-house, including the desserts. The seasonal menu always has a selection of rice, fish and meat dishes and a wide variety of vegetarian options. The ambience is intimate but lively, with two dining rooms. There is a carefully designed wine list and a wide variety of infusions and the restaurant also offers food and wine matching dinners and special menus for groups.
