Despite the Michelin star, the Red Lion does not seem to charge a premium for the accolade. The set menu offers excellent value for money with parity to many lesser 'gastro' pub prices but with much greater quality. The a la carte is obviously more expensive but the level of food goes up a notch accordingly. Lovely breads, amuse bouche,... More

Recently stayed at their guesthouse which is called Troutbeck/ We chose it as we wanted to see friends who live in the next village. Knew we were on to a good thing when we read about the owners work at Per Se. It sum it up, it is pub food classics using michelin techniques to achieve meals beyond expectations in... More

We had the set price lunch and it did not dissapoint, Great to go into a quality restaurant that allows dogs (I feel that dogs and children should have the same rules applied as long as they are well behaved they can come in). Not a salad man but the Chicory tip salad with blue cheese was amazing, the boss... More

The thing is at the end of the day this is all about price. I thought long and hard about this review, because it was a nice lunch, a lovely lunch, but I got more and more irritated as I went through the afternoon afterwards. OK, so it has a Mich star (tho i have eaten in better establishments that... More

Exemplary from start to finish. This fine-dining restaurant hidden within a pub is the best I've eaten in to date. On arrival you're met by somebody who is expecting you and knows your name. The food is excellent (locally sourced) and you can even take your dog. The most impressive place I've eaten in this area - no wonder it... More

There are two types of review - short and to the point, or long and bilious. This is the former. Stayed over in one of the amazing rooms, had an amazing meal, accompanied by some amazing wines, and looked after by some amazing staff. Every detail is carefully planned and delivered, even down to the quality of the yoghurt for... More

We loved the service and the atmosphere. It was a bit pricey, but the prix fix menu was great value and I feel sorry for not chosing it! We loved the tagliatelle and the deserts! They were lovely to the 2-year-old miss of the company and provided her with markers and sketching books!

We visited for lunch back in November 2016 and it was very good indeed. In particular the service standards and knowledge of the staff was stellar. We returned yesterday and as specified this was no flash in the pan. This time the eating experience was even better with stunning food wine and service. Every element of the service was exceptional... More

The Red Lion is a short drive from home but this was our first visit. Mid-January and in need of being cheered up, we were so pleased we'd made the effort. The prix fixe menu is a great way to experience Michelin star food. The chicken liver pate was delicious as was the tagliatelle. In fact we tried all 6... More
