We were lucky enough to stumble across and dine at Osteria da Meo Patacca on Saturday night after the Italy v Ireland 6 Nations match and were entranced, entertained and amused by the unusual ambience and convivial music. Had great fun with our waiter, the inimitable Massimo, and loved the band. Interesting mix of people, with the long table of... More

A party of 12 visted Meo Patacca last night and couldn't have been more disappointed. We were sitting for over a half hour before our order was taken by the rudest and most aggressive waiter I have ever encountered. Most of the items we ordered were 'unavailable'. We then waited an hour before our starters arrived which were certainly not... More

We've been there twice last year, and didn't fail to disappoint. Sure, it's a tourist trap, and no, it's not a Michelin-starred restaurant, but it lays no claim to their contrary. It is what it is, and we liked it, its people, and the food - served fresh, with a smile.

Going to the "Da Meo Patacca" was a sentimental journey as I first went there as a child, trailing my parents on a trip to Rome. My parents' Roman friends had taken us there and I had vivid recollections of the place. I had therefore some reluctance to confront the decades old memory with a new visit, this time introducing... Old charming traditional restaurant at the end of trastevere. Lovely terrace with a band going around playing great music. Holiday vibe guaranteed. Friendly waiters and great food. Quite hard though for vegetarians (can only eat 1 pasta dish)

We chose to embrace the new year in Meo Patacca this year. We were told that the dinner would be accompanied by music. In practice there was almost no music. The restaurant is comprised of three interlinked halls that do not face one another. There is a band of 5 musicians with an average minus quality. And since they have... More

Popular with a good selection of entrees. Fine selection of wines. A good dining experience. Normal Italian entrees but nothing outstanding. Live music and singing throughout the restaurant make up for the general quality of the entrees. Very good music, very good. Recommended but not the best in Trastevere.

I've been there with my partner and many other times. They have a good product composed of good ambient, good meals, good service and good music. Maybe someone can find it turistic, but I lived in Rome for two years and speak perfectly italian, I just find it Roman Traditional Show. It's what I want i for what I pay.... More

Been here a few times looong ago and I had great memories. Returned with family and memories were correct! Great food (not fake local as in 80% of the tourist traps around here), friendly service, excellent atmosphere. For tourists indeed but recommended by many of friends from Rome. Give it a try and you'll enjoy it - prove me wrong.

We were staying literally next door so after a late flight this was perfect. Big meat eater place and seems to have a Bavarian type atmosphere with lots of music and singing crowds. Fish was limited and they had no Norwegian shrimp (on the menu) so only one kind of shrimp left on the menu but €18 for 4 shrimp!... More

Staying in Trastevere

Neighbourhood Profile
Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
