Quaint Italian atmosphere. Service was not bad. We went expecting that it was more for locals than tourists so we were not dissapointed that the waiter did not speak english. The menu on the table is in Italian , just ask for an English menu. The veal chop was grilled to perfection and the pasta was home made, very good. We happened... More

...with average quality food, overpriced. 3 primi piatti (first course), 2 antipasti (starters), 1 bottle of wine, 1 water, 2 desserts = 38 euro per person. And the wine wasn't a pricey one. Price is obviously dictated by the place and where it lays: Trastevere. Keep in mind that for the same price, you can have much better food around... More

Typical italian restaurant with authentic local food and wines. Fish is great, meat a bit less, pasta & pizza OK. you need to be experienced as service is not providing great help in either selecting wine or food. Nice location in a side road, especially in the evening.

Lively and local place suitable for larger groups and tourists, but WATCH OUT FOR YOUR BAGS... one lady had her bag snatched by thieves on a moped while waiting for a table. The staff warned us this was a problem as we arrived, indicating this is a regular feature. Staff were helpful but rushed, and the food was good for... More

We came looking for Roma Sparita around the corner, but it was closed for holidays. So we ended up going to this restaurant instead. We ordered cacio e pepe and it arrived in a Parmesan crisp bowl - just like what we were hoping for originally at Roma Sparita! Ambience was awesome at night in this little square.

We were highly impressed with this Medieval Taverna which we had researched and booked beforehand. The food was excellent, succulent and fresh. As this was a birthday I bought along some candles which they kindly put on a Torte di Nonna cake. We were very lucky to have picked an evening where they had an opera singer and theatrucal scene... We visited La Taverna De Mercanti on a recommendation of a friend living locally. I was advised to make a reservation well in advance, particularly if we wanted a table on the terrace. We hadn't done this and turned up around 9 being very hopeful! They were able to seat us on the terrace within about 5 minutes and we... More

Imagine a place which served ancient travelers and merchants for hundreds of years with delicious food and drinks and a night of stay before they moved on. To sit and eat at the same place is simply magical. The food, service, price just don't count. The place has an aura of its own. Just don't miss it.

Friends recommended this popular and picturesque place set in a very quaint square in Transtevere. We managed to get a table in the balcony so we could soak up the rather nice atmosphere in the square. We enjoyed the live music from the restaurants near by and we were nicely surprised by a lady singing live opera as well. Menu... More

The area is nice, but the waiters are not taking care of the guests, the food is incredible expensive for what they offer. We ordered griglia mista, different kind of meat, one worse than the other, dry and must have been flavoured with glutamate, cause i'm reacting sensitive on that. The waiter forgot two times the drinks and also let... More

Staying in Trastevere

Neighbourhood Profile
Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
