After being in Rome for a week, I chose Nido D'Abruzzo for my last dinner. It felt very homey inside, and I'm pretty sure its just the two owners who work there, with the husband waiting tables and the wife cooking. The man who took my order didn't speak much English, which was a great chance for me to practice... More

We visited this place twice in a four day visit, it was that good. Only saw locals as other customers the entire time; it's a hidden gem. He doesn't speak much English and I had almost no Italian but on a point at the menu basis we ordered some truly wonderful food. Everything was just delicious; too many excellent dishes... More

What a wonderful little place! Amazing pizza! Very fair prices in a quiet unassuming location. Going back tonight for dinner! Can't wait!

Had my doubts when we walked in as it was very quiet, but the place has quite a bit of charm, once you accustom yourself to the peace and quiet. Add the adorable old couple who run it (no troubles with the lovely gentleman, especially considering we speak 0 Italian) and the delicious pasta and cheap wine and you have... More

One of the best Italian meals we ever had. I had wild mushroom home made pasta and my husband had spaghetti bolognese. Fantastic culinary experience. We consider ourself very fortunate as stumbled upon this hidden gem. Looks a little run down but food is great and very reasonably priced.

We stumbled upon Nido d'Abruzzo after a long day of traveling. There were several "hip" looking hotel restaurants and bars surrounding the streets near our hostel. After seeing an adorable older italian couple working we decided to go in this very charming restaurant. BEST DECISION WE MADE THUS FAR IN ITALY. The pasta was incredible and the ricotta in the... Pasta was great, pizza was not so good.. Too much flour and tasted weird, bread was not fresh at all and the wine is cheap. The place owner and the employees does not speak English at all, which was pretty difficult to explain what we want...

The best pasta we had during our visit! Hate to even tell you about this gem, I want to keep it to myself. Our hotel was just around the corner and after reading the reviews, we had to eat here. Both times were great. the house wine at $8 a bottle was a steal, pastas were in the same price... More

Coming to Italy, I was looking forward to eating me some fantastic (and hopefully cheapish) pasta but had been disappointed up until we stumbled across this gem. Nido d'Abruzzo has lower prices (I paid €7 instead of the normal €10+), good portion sizes (see pictures), and is quite fantastic on the palate. There was pretty much only Italian spoken (which... This is a traditional, no frills restaurant. We love the fact that the owner/host/chef spoke next to no English, but managed to make us feel extremely welcome. The food was fantastic and at a very affordable price. We ordered two glasses of red wine and he just shrugged his shoulders and gave us the bottle, and then to top it... More

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
