Had a lunch and ended up there for dinner too! The menu was the same but the food was good each time, despite it being busy. Nice view at the window table watching the gondolas go by, not cheap, but food was tasty and good portions, the prawn cocktail starter was huge, and pasta dishes were big too.

On the way between Rialto and Piazza S. Marco. Small and nice place on a small canal. Friendly staff (french speaking). Quick service and quiet place to rest and escape from the city's turmoil.

We went here on our stay and wasn't disappointed it was amazing truly! We ordered a bottle of prosecco and we both had prawn cocktail to start then I had lasagna with salad it was one of the best meals iv had. There were bread sticks on the table for you to nibble but we really recommend this place

A lovely little restaurant tucked away by a canal and right next to a bridge. Good food and a great view.

Tucked in a quiet back street area we thought on passing this looked quiet promising missing the main drag and front areas of the rialto district. On arrival we we shown to our seats my partner and I were left with the menus choosing snitzel and cuttlefish the food arrived I had to ask for condiments. The service was disappointing... More

We chanced upon this restaurant and we're happily surprised. We had seats beside the canal which gave us endless entertainment as the motor boats and gondolas squeezed beside each other. The food was devine especially the sea food! We ended up going back a second time and were treated like one of the family. The waiters were extra attentive and... More

This place is well hidden but has delightful little porches overlooking gondolas. It's a lovely find reasonable priced with delicious food. Really had a great meal and the service was good to would highly recommend.

After 4 of us searched Venice for one particular restaurant that was recommended, and then being totally ignored, we went into Trattoria Al Sempione and it turned out to be a great decision. We were warmly welcomed and given a table by one of the open window where we watched the gondolas go by and drivers " spar" with each... More

A group of four of us ate here for lunch after being drawn in by the attractive windows overlooking a small canal. One person at our table was told they could not change their drink order even while others were still ordering because the waiter had already sent the order. I ordered the lunch sea bream special which I was... More

Our first meal in Italy! Well-dressed waiters in black & white practically dragged us through the door, to a window seat. The place was empty. The view was great, but this particular side-canal had an aroma that was less than appetizing. We were ignored. Water finally came.......rudeness. After a long time, bread.........is this prison? The meal was unmemorable & we... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
