I recently dined here and was very pleased with my meal, it's out of the way and is not a tourist hotspot so we got a taste of the real Venice. The staff were pleasant and accommodating to us. On arrival we were seated and were offered a free drink each which was a lovely touch. For starter I had... More

Poor & rude service (they quite obviously have a major problem with non Italians as we personally witnessed with the treatment of other British/American customers all evening) meager tasteless portions both with anti pasti & main dishes. After being recommended this place I've quite frankly had better meals in a fast food/tourist restaurant.....will never go back!

THIS IS NOT A PLACE FOR TOURISTS. We entered this half empty restaurant as it looked lovely and had locals eating there but they turned us away because 'we had no reservation'. We chose instead a restaurant directly opposite and sat outside. We them frustratingly watched other people (Italians) go in without reservations and get seated and then turn other... More

This restaurant was recommended by our hotel and on going there realised it was the same one we had dined in 4 years earlier Great simple good food and great service with a smile Bellini aperitiv and sweet wine and biscuits to finish the meal add to the authentic Venetian experience Would definitely return

I'm torn about this restaurant, when we arrived we were presented with mini Bellini's which was a nice touch. We then ordered a courgette and champagne sauce risotto for our primi plate and although it was presented beautifully it was really bland. I had to add seasoning and Parmesan to make it edible. Our seonde plate (which we shared) was... More

Stayed in Al Sole down the street from the restaurant. Went to eat there twice. The service was excellent and the owner added to the experience with his suggestions on menu choices. Our second time, he gave us a discount because we had returned. I think, with the exception of a small family restaurant in Florence, this was the best... More

Had our first lunch here after booking into our hotel, the nearby Al Sole. There's not a lot of space but had a great spread of cold meats as a starter and then a delicious plate of pasta with pesto to follow. Very pleasant glass of house red too!

This restaurant is somewhat tucked away in Santa Croce, but rewards those who find it with a first rate authentic Italian culinary experience. We found it in January on the basis of recommendation and ended up dining there twice in a return 3 day visit to the City! The welcome here is warm, the restaurant itself has considerable character, and... More

We had dinner here and the food was good and the place was nice and quiet. Service was quick and professional. Good wine and excellent calamari!

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
