Had a delightful evening meal here. Very smart inside but still felt warm and welcoming. Host is very friendly, as were the staff and whilst everything felt very relaxed, service was excellent. Was given a glass of proscecco and some tomatoe bruchettes on the house before our meal and at the end of the meal a small plate of petit... More

They gave complimentary bruschetta, and good prices too. Most places in the same area were a lot more expensive. The restaurant has a great feel and the staff were very polite and even helped me with some questions on transport etc. They have good Italian food along with authentic Venetian items too. Will definitely visit again.

Came here after looking on Trip Advisor for a lovely traditional place for an Italian meal... we were not disappointed! We had ravioli and lasagne (both were amazing!!) We weren't sure what wine to have and our server recommended one for us, around 85 euros for 2 courses and a bottle of wine and water... reasonable and really tasty. Nice... More

This restaurant was recommended by the receptionist at our hotel and what a recommendation. We were met at the door by Mr Salvatore, the owner, and seated with a free glass of prosecco. The food was fantastic and so was the atmosphere. We had live music and an impromptu song from one of the diners. Would definitely recommend to anyone... More

They surely know how to welcome people, the food is good and the atmosphere is magic, the plus for us was the live music, two Italian singers. Gold value for the money as well, three course meal with free apetizer and free end of the meal Venetian sweeties. Go for it, you want regret!

Our Airbnb apartment is just up the stairs from this place so we thought we'd give it a try on our first night here. Lovely welcoming service but dated restaurant. We had wine for two, two pastas & two sides for €80. The food was ok but we've had better. Looking for something fresher the rest of our stay.

Far better than expected with the fixed price menu at €23.50pp, the seafood spaghetti and mixed seafood platter were our favourites. Yes the decor is a bit 1980's, and to be honest I suspect some of the waiting staff may be from the same era! but they were really jolly and attentive. Lots of locals was a good sign. Would... More

On our visit to the marvelous Bisanzio Glass Factory on Murano, our host, Luigi, recommended Salvatore's Trattoria alla Scala. We found the place, in between Piazza San Marco and Rialto Bridge, where we are staying. Salvatore greeted us like family and presented us with a complimentary Bellini a mixture of Prosecco sparkling wine and peach purée, a cocktail that originated... More

Went here on our last night in Venice having read the reviews. Couldn't fault the food other than it was a little pricey compared to other nights in equally nice restaurants, it lacked a bit of atmosphere, but that said it was a Sunday night as Venice is entering the quieter season.

About fifty years later, his son and daughter keep on his work with a modern group of waiters and cooks.

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
