We ate here the first evening we were in Venice. We looked for a good place to celebrate a birthday, we were 8 person. The food was really good, we order pumpkin soup as first course and several pasta dishes a main course. All was very tasty. We got tiramisu for dessert that was very good (we receive one for... Great 'home cooking'. Specials each night. I had a bowl full of 'shrimps' they were delicious and the size of langoustines. So fresh and well cooked. Over the the three nights we also had lasagna, linguine with aubergines linguine and smoked cheese and veal escalopes. All excellent. Did not have the courage to order soft crabs although they were very... More

Found this place whilst wandering the streets. The location was one of the most memorable I have from Venice. To me it didn't look real, but like something from a film set, very surreal. It was lunch time so there were tables outside. The food was amazing. The first good meal we had in Venice. From what we could tell... More

Despite the negative reviews, which I didn't see before returning from Venice, we stumbled across this restaurant on a rainy lunchtime and found it to be a very pleasant experience. Admittedly we only had a bowl of pasta, salad, wine and coffee but it was one of the better pasta dishes I had whilst in Venice, and there is a... More

This place was one that we had seen recommended in a guidebook prior to arrival in Venice so we thought we should check it out...very friendly and all staff spoke good English and were efficient in their collective ways...we were served by 2 or 3 different people during the meal. Ultimately not that marvellous...I felt disappointed overall as the place... More

We ate here on our first night in Venice as it was a Monday and it was the first place we came across that was open. We sat outside even though the rain was spitting the sun shade kept us dry. We had a very enjoyable pasta meal and then strolled around the local area.

We came across this restaurant on the last night of our 3 night stay in Venice. The location is great as it sits right alongside a small canal and bridge. The service was efficient and friendly and all of the staff spoke very good English. We had really good food which was delicious. We sat outside as the evening was... More

My wife and I ate here for lunch after checking into our near by hotel when we flew in to Venice. We both had the grilled Branzino (I don't know if they call it that or just sea bass....) as well as the pumpkin ravioli and grilled vegetables. All was authentic and delicious and the staff were all very accommodating.... More

We arrived at 9.30ish and the restaurant closes at 11 but that didn't stop them trying to hurry us out by 10.15pm. I would presume that despite closing at 11pm they would still allow you to finish your food. Apparently not. We ordered our food which was fine and a litre of the house wine, which happens to be wonderful... More

In short, don't eat here. This meal was our first meal of our 10-day trip in Italy, and it was not good. Luckily our other meals at Impronta Cafe and Enoteca ai Artisti made up for it. We ate at Al Ponte del Megio because we couldn't eat at La Zucca. La Zucca was recommended by our hotel, but when... More

Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
