We took a walking food/wine tour and the guide recommended the Ostaria Da Rioba and it was outstanding. It was lunch and we sat at one of the few tables outside near a small canal. Mostly locals so you know the food is good. The fact it is a few blocks off the main street and the Grand Canal gave... More

We stumbled upon this great osteria while walking between Ca' D'Oro and the Jewish Ghetto and had a lovely lunch by the canal: great fish, proper service.

Great location, attention to detail, excellent wine list. The menu focuses mostly on italian tastes with a modern and quite fancy flair. Quite pricey, but good value for money for the quality and the service

Have been there with family (two teenage daughters) for dinner. All OK: food, staff but nothing special. Three stars in consideration of the even for Venice high prices.

There is a small but exquisite selection of fish starters and main fish dishes. Tried the menu of the day. Seabass. Will definitely go back again.

We enjoyed a phenomenal lunch far away from the tourists at this tiny place tucked next to a quiet canal. We sampled fish, duck and two pastas and both my husband and I were so pleased. It was the perfect antidote to the somewhat overwhelming madness of the places on St. Marks.

A friend had recommended Osteria da Rioba and it certainly didn't disappoint. Beautiful pasta dish to start, delicious seabass cooked simply with potatoes flavoured with rosemary and olives, and velvety creme brûlée with almonds to finish. Service was very attentive and friendly. Quite expensive but definitely worth it.

An excellent choice. Not in the centre but so welcoming you'll soon forget the journey. Fish specialities but I tried the meat. Too good! Awesome even if my wife loved the grilled ombrine. Best tiramisu of the week end. Venice not easy to find family restaurants. This is surely one you can rely on.

Thank tony m

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
