We visited with a couple of friends, wise to book as it was very busy. Both couples shared a starter, then my wife had monkfish whilst I had a mixed fish platter. All very well cooked washed down with a nice bottle of dry white. For 4 of us our bill was €180, certainly not cheap

I have been here many times and was not disappointed this time. I always book in advance, but this year despite having booked and got an email confirmation, when I arrived there was no table reserved. Fortunately we were early and there was space. A bit later it would have been full and I would have been far from amused... More

Small, smart restaurant away from the touristy places ! I would recommended to book ahead. Menu has a combination of pastas and more unique and original dishes . The only downside is that portions are small and a little pricy

I've been here many times and I'll have lunch or dinner in the future! This time I had a very good lunch as usual but the service was changed: made by a nice girl coming from the south-america speaking a very good italian. I arrived just after noon and the restaurant was all for me. When I finish it was... More

The food here is nothing to complain about, it is just too little and far too expensive. The sea food platter was not enough for me, the lamb chops far from enough for my partner. So we decided to eat dessert, which we hardly ever do. This, too, is just too little and comes at 8,50. On the bill it... More

Forget the tourist places, hidden away in Venice are many Osteria's waiting to be found. This was a recommendation from our hotel, the food especially the fish was excellent, great atmosphere and service. Not cheap but you get what you pay for. Definitely worth a visit, book however.

We certainly enjoyed our dinner in this charming, local restaurant in the quieter Cannaregio district. Service was charming and attentive and the fresh Italian food lovely. We enjoyed the carpaccio, veal liver (Fegato alla Veneziana) and desserts. It was quiet the night we visited but, as it's small, I would still recommend booking.

This restaurant was very close to our hotel in a really good location, on a quiet street but still really close to the main drag. There is no doubt the food is very good and it is a cut above your average trattoria experience but I couldn't help feeling that we paid a heck of a lot for not much... More

Osteria L'Orto dei Mori is a lovely little eatery in the Cannaregio district of Venice. We had a cracking meal there and received great service from the very friendly waiting staff. The menu choices were very extensive and spread over the traditional four courses. We felt three courses would be more than enough and our waitress was very supportive of... More

We had a great meal here. Restaurant is small but all the patrons seemed to be enjoying the food and having a good time. The service was kind and efficient. We ordered the veal liver and duck ragu pasta. Both meals tasted fantastic. Little on the expensive side but well worth finding for a great meal away from the majority... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
