This place. So perfect. We were lucky enough that our airbnb was a block away. When asked the person that was cleaning the flat where could we go for real food, she recommended this place. It made this trip an absolute delight. It is as local as it gets, a small osteria where everyone speaks italian, with tables on the... More

Whenever I read a restaurant review that says something along the lines of 'this was so good I was tempted to keep it to myself' I am very sceptical. But frankly it was only finding out that the Osteria Bea Vita is already in several guidebooks (while we were congratulating ourselves smugly on finding a hidden gem in Venice) that... More

We stopped off on our walk through the Jewish Qtr for some Prosecco and Ciccheti. Service was good, the Italian Tapas was good, we would call again

Along a hidden canal this little place certainly hit the spot for a selection of tapas and bellini drinks. The waitress was helpful (despite the lunch time rush and full tables) for our choice of tapas (cicchetteria). We sat outside and ordered Bellini drinks, bread was brought and then a modest priced selection from the cicchetteria menu including sardines with... More

I had high expectations after reading the reviews. I booked a table for 8pm on a Wednesday in March and found that there were lots of empty tables when I arrived. I received a very friendly welcome and I was impressed by the menu. From the Primi I ordered the garganelli pasta with sea bass and wild fennel, which was... More

Really great place to eat and rest. The staff is welcoming beyond imagination (they provided us two free drinks) and the typical dishes served at lunch speak venetian. No thrills, only good food and real feel for 13 € (complete menu).

We stopped here on a slightly grey Saturday morning for coffee, took it standing at the bar as we do this time of day, had a biscuit and the husband couldn't resist a grambero patata which was very good too. Unfortunately no spremuta but friendly service who let me get on with my poor Italian! Thank you!

This is located in Cannaregio, a neighborhood where Venetians live. This is also where they eat. And it is where you will get great service, superb seafood, and a bill that will make your wallet smile. It's s bit of a walk from the heart of San Marco, but a very pleasant one and a great find for a wonderful... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
