We had been walking around for a bit and happened upon this small restaurant...what a gem! 2 of us had the steak smothered in gorgonzola cheese...scrumptious! The tiramisu for dessert was divine. Its a nice quaint place (would have been nice & quiet except for the screaming child at the table next to us). The waiter was very attentive, even... More

I was really disappointed with what they presented on the menu. They put €7.00 for the fish and in the bottom you see 100g. If you're not familiar with the language or you don't paying attention you might go for it. And it's only came with one fish of 1kg and cost you €70.00. Food is not good at all... More

We were roaming the streets on a foggy day near Saint Marks and came upon the restaurant on a side street. Ready for a good Italian lunch we very pleased with our meals. My husband was thrilled with their rich lasagna and I was so happy with my tasty crab fettucine. The crab was served with the shell for an... More

My wife and I happened on to this restaurant after taking a late night gondola ride near St. Mark's Square. The restaurants around the square were offering club sandwiches for $14 euros so we decided to look elsewhere. I have to say I am surprised by the negative reviews. We must have hit it at a good time. Our waiter... More

We went and when we expressed some interest in local wine, a nice Italian waiter was very helpful. He served us ahead of other who were there before us because of this and discussed the wine at length as it was from a revered local producer. The interior is fine, a tad cold looking maybe, bit nothing that would stop... More

Good little restaurant with good pasta and good service. My caprese salad was a bit ordinary, but the gnocchi was excellent. It was light and fluffy with a very tasty bolognese sauce. I would happily return.

We ate here last night, the staff & owner couldn't have been more helpful. There was plenty of space which is a luxury in Venice, and the clientele seemed mostly local or European, it was not touristy at all which is part of the appeal. We had seafood, cooked beautifully, even went for desserts of tiramisu & a lovely pannacotta.... More

We have eaten at da Nico a number of times on our visits to Venice over the years and while this isn't the most "up market" trattoria, it is honest food, well cooked and at reasonable prices, especially for Venice. We loved the risotto ia funghi. I was surprised by the negative posts. I suspect it was the wait staff,... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
