The portions are good but tiny - more like starters than mains. The service is good but they will charge you a mandatory 10% service PLUS a service charge of €3 per person for some breadsticks. Most other places in Venice will charge you one or the other. And finally they charged us for 2 bottles of water when we... More

I am quite surprised by the mixed reviews of this restaurant. Admittedly, my wife and I ate here in late March before the seasonal crowds but we consider this restaurant to be quite a find. The waiter was attentive. His recommendations were welcome and the food was really quite good. Prices here were typical for what we saw in Venice... More

Usually good at avoiding traps like this but on this occasion we were tired after travelling and it looked the busiest restaurant on the street at that time. It seems there are two separate restaurants running from the same place - the locals get one menu and tourists the other. They know every trick in the book. You will get... More

Our hotel recommended this place and it did not disappoint. We loved the frittis and enjoyed the main dishes as well. It was an enjoyable meal in a cozy atmosphere.

Based on one dinner for 3 people [pasta, fish and chicken as main courses], this place proved to be mediocre at best. Overcooked, along with stale bread, at a high price. Venice offers far better elsewhere!

We have been going to this place for the last past 10 years. It's just absolutely gorgeous Everytime. Ask them what they have off the menu.

Unlike all the bad reviewers we had a great experience! Sergio our waiter was a hoot! He was playing with us with his recommendations, by the end of the meal he was singing to us, I can see why others could think he was rude but it's just an act.the calamari was the best ever! As was all our meals!

A long standing and reliable venue for couples or family dinning. Typical menu of pasta, seafood and other local dishes and the waiters are not shy and certainly have lots of experience with tourists. Nevertheless its a character place and I recommend a visit.

My favorite dish was the squid ink pasta. My hubby liked the cream baccalà with polenta. I thought the staff were friendly. I don't know why some people are complaining so much on TripAdvisor about their service. It was 90% Italians when we dined, and that's always a good and comforting sign for me;)

A place worth eating and recommending. Il N G is patronised by both locals and also tourists for its very good cooking such as grilled scampis and fried sea food. The wine list is attractive too. The people is of good advice re the catch of the day.

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
