We came here one night for dinner. The food was not too good, when my wife asked for chilli flakes they gave her a powder that made her pasta extremely spicy. When she asked them for water they took 10 minutes to get her a bottle of water and banged the bottle on the table. When my wife went to... More

Just across the Ponte Scalzi from the Stazione this small restaurant is a little gem. It wasn't full so we were seated right away. You could see them cooking your food fresh in the back. My husband and son both had a pasta/seafood dish that was excellent. I had a small small that was very fresh. The house red wine... More

On a wet Eunice afternoon the outside tables with patio heaters offered welcome respite to the rain. The service was fast and friendly, the wine and coffee good. Not a 'destination' but worthy of a visit in passing

We ended up here for dinner as everywhere else was full. It was a good decision. What Vittoria lacked in ambiance it made up for with its pasta. I had cheese gnocchi which was excellent. My boyfriend had anchovy wholemeal spaghetti which was good too. We shared a some salt cod and polenta and a side of spinach for our... More

We had a hot chocolate and cake here. The drink was great but the cake was very dry and not much flavour.

Found this place round the corner from our hotel. The lasagne was the best I have tasted. Service was good. We sat next to the open kitchen and watched them prepare the pizza!!

We enjoyed dinner here twice. We sat inside one evening and outside by the canal the second time. The food and service were very good. We were pleased with the set menu (reasonable and each course was delicious). The pizza and wine that we ordered the next time were also excellent. There's no cover charge (coperto) which is rare –... More

This Pizzeria was very close to our hotel and just over the grand canal within 5 minute’s walk of the rail station. Had seating for about 8-10 people outside and 35 inside. Very intimate with good house win by the carafe and excellent traditional Italian food. The food was cooked in front of you which we enjoyed watching. Service was... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
