We went there for lunch yesterday. The waiter assured us that they could provide gluten free spaghetti & even went into the kitchen to check. My wife has to have a strictly gluten free diet for medical reasons, not lifestyle ones. She doesn't often get the chance to have spaghetti or pasta, so she ordered it with vegetables. I had... After a lot of walking around the Venice we finally decided to sit down for a dinner. Chose this restaurant purely by accident (no planning whatsoever) and sat down on patio. Food was really good. Seafood medley was great. Calamari was the best I have had in years. Only reason this is not a five star review is the pizza... More

Its easy to see it's the typical place for tourists. Anyway we gave it a chance because we were starving and wanted to try Venice seefood -it's located just near the fish street market-. We mostly regreted it. Not the Seafood Rissoto nor the typical Sarde in Saor were specially tasty. In fact those famous Venice Sardines are mainly just... More

I saw two elderly ladies (looked like locals) eating in a quite alley and decided to try. We were quickly ushered out front to the 'Tourist' area. Wine was served to us from a dirty China pitcher. Food was mediocre, staff was more concerned with folding and putting away tables for the evening than waiting on us. We will not... More

This food was just ok. The restaurant seems to have a tendency to over cook things- the fish was dry, the gnocchi was mushy, the pasta was not al dente. The flavors were not bad, but not nearly as good as other restaurants I've been to in Venice. There are other places to eat by the fish market, go somewhere... More

The food wasn't the best I've had in Italy, which is tough competition. The location was good and the food was good. The service was great, though that was partly because the waiter let us have a third of a bottle of wine left over from a nearby table. Waste not, want not. Who says you can't find a good... More

My husand & I have travelled to Venice twice as it is always so interesting. This time we stayed in Murano and the hotel was excellent. There are good restaurants for lunch & diner on Murano. The weather is always brilliant but I suppose it is when you go, with only 2 hours from the UK our trip will not... More

So we were walking back from having a couple of spritz just behind the Rialto market. We were hungry and had a long way to go back to our B&B in Mestre. We see this place, and are convinced to enter solely on the low "coperto" price (€1.10, if you may ask). We ordered 3 pizzas and some sparkling water.... More

This restaurant was a rare low point in an otherwise exceptional Italian holiday. First we were pestered by a trio of untalented musicians that literally begged us for cash. Fortunately I had no coins to put in the cup that was rudely and insistently thrust inches from my nose, but that did not stop them offering to change a note.... More

Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
