This is a really good value place if you are looking for a snack/break. There were plenty of food choices and we had courgette quiche and mix grilled vegetables (which came to €16. The food was very tasty. We sat upstairs and relaxed until we wanted to leave without anyone hassling us. We will definitely return.

Kids like to see what they are going to eat before they eat it, and they loved it. I loved it too, chicken, veggies, fish, fresh bread, all good. Only issue was they took forever to get us our creme brule, but the tall red head guys was very cool and helpful. It's not a fine dinning establishment but that's... More

We had two times lunch here. First we eat some pizza. The place was nice, and we say mmm let's come next time also. And we remained with our thoughts at the octopus witch looks great, when we came back other day we have some and it was not fresh. You can feel that was not fresh, was smelly and... More

Kind of cantine where you choose dishes prepared in advance. Taste is quite ok but high price for what it is.

Stumbled across this whilst out walking . I had the Italian Kebab and Hubby had the Lasagne. We both had Spritz Aperol. Two clean plates . Two empty glasses . E26. Excellent value

The best food we ate in Venice. Forget the formal dining. If you're looking for real fresh Italian food, come here. The octopus/potato salad was to die for, the cannelloni was superb as was everything's else we tried. Staff very friendly and efficient. Lots of locals ie gondolieri. We would have eaten here every night if we had known about... More

Stopped here on the spur of the moment - the food on display pulls you in, you can see whats on offer easily and choose at the counter. Overall a very good experience and would recommend.

Loved this bar as there was simply too much to chose from. The variety of pizzas, panini, pasta cichetti was truly delicious.

I was first in this resturant with friends in March 2016 and was pleasantly surprise. ilCalice serves fresh healthy food, reasonable priced (Venice standard). Always busy with tourists, free wifi and clean place to sit and relax after a very busy day touring the square and its surroundings. They pack food if asked (for take away) see picture below Though... More

I was really surprised to eat so well in the most costly part of town for so little. Very friendly and fun staff. Excellent octopus and potato salad. The fact that it is open until 22.00 is wonderful in a place like Venice where all is dedicated to a foreign public with their taste for adjusted Italian food. Focaccia was... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
