Zero welcome, most miserable staff in the world although the guy at the till was ok and managed to say a few words. Pasta had too much oil and no salt. I hadn't finished eating yet and the cleaner came to spray the table around me!! We couldn't leave fast enough

I stumbled across this lovely little café whilst wondering around the streets of Venice. I was served straight away and had gorgeous spaghetti Bolognese! the place was nice and quiet and it pretty cheap. All in all a tasty lunch

Stumbled across this on way back to hotel and popped in for cappuccino which was a modest 1.50 I think compared to 3plus in other places which charge you to sit in - these guys don't which is great to see in Venice!. Good friendly service restaurant out the back had already eaten otherwise would have given pizza pasta a... More

My friends and I bought a few slices of bread with ham, only to find that the bread was too salty on its own.

Had lunch on NYE, great meal. Snack, sandwiches and drinks in front and cafeteria style in back. Delicious pasta! Staff was very polite even though they were busy! Paid €16,50 for pasta, salad, chicken cutlet, dessert and water.

Definitely the best place for a breakfast when you're visiting venice. They have many choices of pastries and the croissant is by far the best I've ever had.

We stayed in Venice for two nights and ate here three times as it was right next door to our hotel and we have small children who enjoyed everything they ate here. The daily soup, for 5 euros, was always rich and satisfying, as was every pasta dish we tried, and being able to see everything and point helped with... More

Loved this place compared to the hustling busy cafes - there was space to sit, and they had a slightly wider range of Italian breakfast pastries along with the staples. The staff was friendly, and a lot of people were obviously regulars, since they were served their orders at the small bar top without needing to formally order.

We always drop in to Brek when we stay in Venice and you can happily enjoy food and drink that are not expensive. The front area of Brek serves light refreshments and snacks that can be eaten in the restaurant or taken away. At the rear is the restaurant that has a good selection of hot and cold meals and... Deeper, deeper, deeper still, that's the trick of Brek! If I hadn't stayed in a hotel just next door, I might have only noticed the sandwich counter visible from the street. But to best enjoy what Brek has to offer, the visitor needs to venture deeply into the back of the establishment, passing through a narrow passage, finally emerging into... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
