We visited this restaurant once and I still cant forget how delicious it was. We ordered Squid Ink Spagetti, Dori Fish and Spider crab, it was sensational. Couldn't get the same taste and flavour anywhere else in Venice.

I had been recommended this restaurant, which is very near St Marco. It has a park that replicates a carriage on The Orient Express, such an amazing look and feel to it. i ate in the main part of the restaurant and the food was really good. The prices, for Venice were very good too. All in all, it is... More

This restaurant was mentioned in a list by the Martin Randall tour company as being known as the place to eat in Venice. I agree. Everything was done well, from the caprese starter with luscious tomatoes paired with excellent mozzarella sprinkled with a few olives and capers, to the tagliatelle pasta with shrimp and asparagus and the dory fish filet... We received a recommendation to eat here and we really enjoyed te food. The ambience was not the best, the staff was nice, but the decoration of the room was ok, so so, not great. But after all, you do go for the food and the food was absolutely lovely. The best spaghetti ala vongole, great sea bass and a... More

We came late, after a concert, everything else was closed, and we did not have much money and went for the risotto and the cheapest wine. We were mocked and ridiculed by the waiters, we have never ever seen such behaviour. We can see that this place is not very well liked, from the other reviews, and we would certainly... More

Food OK but overpriced - service poor - very disappointing. Wine list intimidating and very very expensive - there were reasonable options but in the minority - the overall impression is that they really did not care as service charge added at 12%.

In fairness, we had already visited Florence and had the best meal in our lives at the Buca Mario. So this review may be a little jaded because they did not even come close to that experience. Wife wanted to eat here, apparently from reviews, so we ate here one evening right as they opened and were seated right away.... More

Our hotel concierge recommended and was the worst recommendation I have ever received. The service was OK, maybe good but not exceptional, but the food was below average. The seafood was over cooked, they charged €10 for 2 bread rolls and 2 mini bread sticks we didn't order. They charged €9, for fried potatoes, which was a plate of basic... More

Honestly I can't stop coming back. I'm living here for a while and it's a trek from where I live but I do it because it's authentic, welcoming , utterly Venetian, always entertaining and tie food is the ultimate . Eligio Pates is the heart and soul of this restaurant and he makes everyone feel that they matter and that... More

A bad recommendation by our hotel concierge (who clearly receives a back-hander in return) this place churns out very average, uninspired food for well above average prices. Even the bread was dull and tasteless and on the stale side - a good clue to the rest of the meal. There was nothing inspired about the cooking (we tried a variety... More

The restaurant " Do Forni " was founded in 1973 and is managing with passion by Mr.Eligio Paties.

" Do Forni " is distributed in two adjacent rooms: a rustic elegant room setting with the imagery of the ancient Venetian restaurant and the other one called Orient Express, whose luxurious furnishings reproduce accurately the setting and the soul of the famous wagon train that connects Venice to Istanbul and Paris.

The restaurant features traditional Venetian cuisine, mainly seafood, which offers fish and shellfish of the Adriatic according to recipes handed down by the Venice of the past centuries and embellished with seasonal vegetables and delicate sauces; but also the restaurant is known for a refined interpretation of the Venetian and Italian cooking that mixes the use of meats and local vegetables with the influence of international gastronomy.

Very large and qualified is also the restaurant's wine cellar, that offers the best labels from all the Italian regions, the most prestigious French wines and champagnes as well as a wide selection of international products.

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
