Osteria Sottoriva came highly recommended by an Italian friend. I arrived in Verona in the evening & went straight to the restaurant. As soon as I sat down I felt my shoulders relax. It was everything I hoped for: romantic settling under the arches, welcoming staff, simple, well cooked local food & reasonably priced regional wines. I felt like a... More

try pasta fagioli or polenta con i funghi, the staple dishes in the menu - ' fatti da sempre', ' we have always cooked them', said the waitress. Homecooked fare

This osteria is nicely decorated and the staff is friendly. We came here for dinner & drinks. The food was delicious (gourmet approach), but we don't recommend it for dinner unless you are willing to spend quite some money. For instance, the lasagna cost 8-9 Euros and was about 5x5 cm (heated in microwave). The ricotta filled crepe with "vegetables"... More

An excellent venue for lunch not exactly of the beaten track Near to the river Adige. All the dishes seem to be home cooked & all the meat for the platters is freshly sliced. A good lunch washed down with a couple of glasses of valpolicella. Recommended

I found this little osteria by chance and decided to give it a try. I am so glad I did. The staff were very friendly and helpful and they had a special menu to help non-Italian speakers. I decided to try the Veronese speciality, pastissada de caval with polenta, which is a spicy, slow-cooked horse meat. It was delicious. I... More

We were here because locals we met in Firence highly recommendet this place. Unfortunatelly it seems to be a difference if you are live in Verona or not. My husband and I arrived and ultimatelly got a spot at a table with a small family. We didnt care to share a table, so this wasnt any problem. Also the wine... More

I knew from previous visits that this area of town is frequented by the locals. Just near the river under ancient arches is this beautiful old character of a place. Renowned for its selection of wines which were plentiful. They also have a small menu of dishes which we enjoyed for lunch. The chicken pieces were absolutely delicious. They even... More

This is the kind of place Italy does better than anywhere. Relatively simple but wonderfully tasty food, in a understated but classy environment, with a warm atmosphere. This is not fine dining, but it is a very reasonably priced and memorable place to eat.

On our way to look at the Adige river we spotted this Osteria so decided to return and have lunch there. It is a lovely rustic restaurant with loads of atmosphere. The food was good as was the wine. It appears to be very popular and it wasn’t long before people were being turned away as it was full –... More

We visited the Osteria sottoriva for an aperitivo that became nice dinner. The wine selection is excellent and the small bites that accompany that are delicious. We then tasted the Pastissada de Caval (typical horse meat stew) and polenta with Gorgonzola and found them very tasty. The local Oste (host/owner) recommended the following wines and the pairing was a perfect... More
