Went there with family and had a terrific meal at reasonable prices. I much prefer this type of local trattoria . Pasta was excellent and the antipasto starter substantial

Each time we visit Florence we make a booking here, have to say that L'Osteria di Giovanni never disappoints the food and service is consistently excellent. We love the ambiance here it is a popular restaurant so making a reservation is wise. We really enjoyed the Troffie pasta, shrimps, calamari with pesto sauce, the portion sizes are generous. Highly recommend... More

I went to Osteria di Giovanni because it was recommended by most of the tourists' guides and, I must say, the restaurant fulfilled my expectations. Perhaps a bit more formal than what you would expect from an Osteria but the food is excellent and genuine. The menu is rich with many dishes from the local cuisine, all very authentic and... More

We aim to be NOT fine dining, but something elegant yet casual! We want to create memories, and a touch (but just a touch!) does that superbly. We are so pleased you enjoyed your time with us and we hope to be able to repeat the experience very soon! More

I researched the best place to have bistecca alla Fiorentina and wasn't disappointed. They were very welcoming and we were given a glass of prosecco and a plate of Tuscan ribollata a wonderful bread soup the service was first class and the homemade deserts a really light tangy lemon cake and apple pudding were both fantastic a memorable night in... CaterinaLatini, Owner at L'Osteria di Giovanni, responded to this review

We are so glad that it all worked out for you! Isn't ribollita amazing? It's a classical Tuscan dish, but one that is really hard to describe in an inviting way, in words! "Bread and cooked vegetables, all boiled up together" doesn't sound inviting, but as you know, it tastes amazing! Hopefully we might see you again one day. More

I ordered the ragu from wild boar and it was full of bone pieces. I informed them about it and they changed and got me a beef ragu instead. This time they forgot salt. They didn't get back the full change at the time of paying. I asked for it and then they got the full amount. Some guests were... More

Firstly we are enormously sorry that you did not enjoy your time with us. That is always, for whatever reason, a really bad feeling. You are correct about the wild boar ragù. It did contain 3 pieces of bone. The boar that we serve is wild and is hunted in the forests of Tuscany (like all of the game that... More

We were treated very well by the friendly staff. And the food is excellent as well. Everything is really top class with out being too much. It seems genuine and they really do care what you think about the service.

We would like to say that rather than caring what you think about the service, we really care about your overall experience, not just having some great food and drink. In this city, really good food and fabulous wine is never that far away, but we want to make really memorable experiences for people. Hopefully we did that! More

We had some absolutely yummy vegetarian pasta with the house wine here served with a lot of warmth and care by the friendly staff. Great place to satiate your taste buds. Might get a little busy later in the evening so might be worth it to reserve a table.

We can normally cater to most dietary requirements (except non-contamination, for example with celiac disease) but vegetarians, vegans and dairy-free we can usually take in our stride! We do get busy. The best thing is to hop through to our site and book. Thanks so much for taking the time to comment here. More

Giovanni is on hand along with his daughter to make sure the food and service are top notch. Both were excellent - as good as on our first visit several years ago, Try and get a corner table, or at least one against a wall, out of the way of the constant flow of waiters, The ambiance is above average... We had the pleasure of dining here earlier this month. You could see the pride and joy in Giovanni's face, making sure everyone is happy with the food and just being there. At L’Osteria di Giovanni we not only maintain strict allegiance to traditional Tuscan dishes (including many antique recipes that are not commonly used these days), but we also experiment with new flavours and combinations, whilst remaining faithful to local and season produce. Popular new dishes include smoked duck breast on rocket salad and dressed in balsamic vinaigrette, tortelli stuffed with pear and pecorino, with leek and paprika sauce, pici with sausage and kale, and lamb slow-cooked with artichokes. We stronly believe that your restaurant experience should be unique and satisfying on every front. We look forward to welcoming you one day to L'Osteria di Giovanni.

Staying in Duomo

Neighbourhood Profile
Florentia, as it was called by Latins, is permeated by an eternal beauty spread in all corners of the city. The historic center is characterized by the immensity of the Duomo, able to transport tourists into the brightest age of Florence: the Renaissance. Who does not know the Brunelleschi Dome, San Giovanni Baptistery and the Giotto’s Campanile? Everything is enclosed here and it would be easy to imagine the city as it was in ancient times, with maids walking in the main square and horses carrying coaches. Nowadays, roads are busy with street artists. Rustic Tuscan bakeries give way to fashion shops; just stop for a few minutes in the middle of Piazza della Repubblica to enjoy the colors and sweet melody of the carousel that will bring back great memories from anyone’s childhood.
