As much as I adore Tuscan food sometimes it can be a bit heavy and redundant. For lunch I was looking to go somewhere that offered something different. The restaurant we planned to visit was closed for renovations, so we walked a few meters and came upon Gastone. The lunch menu in the window had me hooked as they advertised... More

Barmen in a nearby restaurant has recommended this one as "famous for its fish". When we arrived everything seemed good, the restaurant is pleasant to be in and the waiter was very friendly. However, that expression couldn't last when we've received our dishes. We've ordered a selection of seafood appetizers (2/5), tuna tartar (1/5) and cheesecake (3/5). We normally love... More

We dined here on the recommendation of someone from Florence. The food, from the appetizer to the dessert, exceeded expectations. The squid ink risotto, cooked perfectly, offered a high point. The sommelier suggested a wine which complimented the meal. Lots of locals, but the restaurant helpfully had an English menu. We'll be back on our next visit.

I think that this place would be a great option for lunch, but I went for dinner. From the outside, the restaurant looks quite inviting. However, the restaurant is quite brightly light in the evening. If you are sitting at a table in the middle, you really feel like you are on display. The food was alright, but was less... More

Loved the great selection of salads at lunch time. Fewer salads at dinner but, great tasting seafood and home made pasta both on the menu.

We had a very satisfactory meal after coming across this restaurant by chance. Food was excellent, beautifully cooked, with proportions in accordance with our modest appetites An interesting wine list. Staff were very attentive and helpful making the whole visit a extremely pleasant event. Would have gone for another evening if we had had the opportunity.

Gastone is not your typical Italian restaurant that would draw your attention immediately. However, we gave it a try and didn't regret it for a bit! The food was very good, especially pasta with pistachio pesto and fish, and the desert - panna cota with pistachio - a special one of which I dreamed two days after. A selection of... More

Admitting that we prefer foods that are interesting, not just wholesome and traditional, we were delighted with everything about Gastone, from its central location near our residence to the simple, uncluttered decor, to the service (outstanding, attentive but not disruptive), to the food (we were happy to hear from Florentine natives at the next table that we had chosen "the... Description
Looking for something different than the classic T bone steak and pappa al pomodoro? Look no further than Gastone! In a peaceful and cozy atmosphere, in a woody and perfectly climatised room, located in the authentic area of Santa Croce, just a few steps away from the big crowd of the main routes, you have found the typical place where florentines go to have dinner or lunch. Sporting a menu mixing cleverly fish and meat with the typical tuscan flavours and a very good wine list, a stop at Gastone makes up for an experience not to be missed!
The restaurant is perfect for both lunch and dinner; while for lunch the menu is a little simpler and faster, having dinner at the Gastone is a good choice whether you want to celebrate your stay in Florence or just have a nice and relaxed dinner.Particular attention go to the freshness of the raw materials, therefore menu changes along with the season; throughout the year whether you prefer vegetables, fish or meat you will always end finding something that suit your taste.

Staying in Duomo

Neighbourhood Profile
Duomo
Florentia, as it was called by Latins, is permeated by an eternal beauty spread in all corners of the city. The historic center is characterized by the immensity of the Duomo, able to transport tourists into the brightest age of Florence: the Renaissance. Who does not know the Brunelleschi Dome, San Giovanni Baptistery and the Giotto’s Campanile? Everything is enclosed here and it would be easy to imagine the city as it was in ancient times, with maids walking in the main square and horses carrying coaches. Nowadays, roads are busy with street artists. Rustic Tuscan bakeries give way to fashion shops; just stop for a few minutes in the middle of Piazza della Repubblica to enjoy the colors and sweet melody of the carousel that will bring back great memories from anyone’s childhood.
