We found this place while looking for lunch before we went to the Accademia to see Michelangelo's David. It is in the square, just around the corner by all of the bus stops. From the outside it looks like a small place but it was quite large inside and the staff were very welcoming. We had delicious pasta but the... More

I don't know if Italians eat pizza this way but mine was like a Frankenstein experiment between a sloppy Joe and a pie. You could literally see water dripping down from our pizza slices. The cheese was also not really spread out and the topping portions were miserable. Even a microwave oven pizza would have been better. Horrible pizza experience... More

Our first visit to this restaurant was better than expected - even after reading the great reviews! There were still plenty of open tables around 7:45 pm and we were quickly seated. (We did not reserve beforehand.) We were given the regular menu as well as a "daily specials" menu, both in good English. We ordered a sea bass filet... More

Good food, service and atmosphere. Mushroom strudel was delicious. We shared a chicken parmigiana and a pasta.

We had our last meal in Florence here and really enjoyed it. All of the reviews said how it was a local-approved spot that treats tourists as humans too and serves darn good Florentine food. The hype was correct. The service was great. We didn't have a reservation but they sat us at a nice table away from the door.... More

Amazing food, try the anchovies as a starter - amazing! The staff are brilliant, food delicious and the atmosphere is relaxed, comfortable and vibrant. A welcome end to a busy day in Florence with excellent wine!

It would be easy to walk past this gem of a restaurant, the front is small and tucked away from many a passing tourist but this place is worth the walk from the centre. Of course if you are already over by the Accademia then you are in the perfect spot to enjoy this wonderful eatery. Our meal started with... More

Was in florence for a symposium and had the option of a meal here as the owner's wife also attended the symposium. This may well have been one of my top 10 dining experiences ever, but for the least money ever! What we had would probably be classed as a tasting menu, which was fantastic as most of us don't... Having first read up on where to eat on Christmas Day (and being led to believe by other reviewers that there everywhere would be closed on Christmas Day) I emailed to book a table and received a speedy reply. It turned out that there were actually plenty of places to eat on the special day but I'm glad I booked... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The pleasant atmosphere of this residential area, a stone’s throw away from the Duomo of Florence, surprises everyone. A continuous flow of backpacking students provides the tranquil surroundings for the elderly residents who sit in Piazza San Marco to read the daily newspaper. Home to several universities, including the Academy of Fine Arts, San Marco is one of the most vibrant cultural centers in the city. A bridge connecting the modern cultural activity of Florence to its classic art, represented by the everlasting magnificence of the original David, resonates as a symbol of Florence and of Italy as a whole. Get lost in a Neoclassic world, a journey back in time through historic buildings like Spedale degli Innocenti (Hospital of the Innocents), San Marco church, Basilica della Santissima Annunziata, and natural jewels like the Botanical Gardens.
