Great location on the main road between the Main Station (Firenze SMN) and the Duomo. It also has an entrance on the side road. It's got an extensive menu at usual Florence prices. The house wine is ok but honestly nothing special. Service takes a while but is friendly, so don't come here if you're pressed for time. If you... More

We came upon this Ristorante by chance quite late at night. They were very welcoming and the atmosphere was excellent. The choice of food was splendid and the house wines were a treat. We were so impressed with everything that we ate there twice...a high recommendation indeed. Thanks.

This restaurant has 2 entrances and has different parts where you can have your dinner. We cake in at the side and it was perfect. We had a sharing plate as a starter. As a main er had a pizza and a steak Fiorentina. The dessert comes in a separate trolley where you can pick from. They have also small... More

The food we had was appropriate for the prices. Except that we must have offended the waitress by leaving two bites of our bruschetta and not being able to finish our plate of pasta. She outright ignored us and would not even give us a chance to pay our bill! We had to ask someone else to bring our bill... More

From the outside this isn't a very appealing restaurant. Very seventies. But the food and service is excellent. There were 11 of us and we had two large round tables. As with all Italian restaurants they struggled to bring out the food at the correct time. Some pasta mains came with the starters. But the food was excellent. Wild boar... More

It was our first night in Tuscany and had already prepared ourselves for a 'bistecca Fiorentina' - a Florentine beef steak. Must admit that it wasn't as big as I usually had before and not as tasty either. It was chewy - note sure if the meat was actually local. Otherwise service was good as was the wine.

It was cold and wet out and we needed a meal, but please avoid this terrible restaurant. The bread was still frozen. My chicken cacciatore was cold, an unrecognisable lump of bony carcass with virtually no meat on it and served with cold greasy potatoes. My daughter's pasta was hot in places and cold in others, obviously carelessly microwaved from... More

Went to Giglio Rosso twice during our recent visit to Italy. The service was first rate, they were very busy both nights and they accommodated us with a very short wait. The food quality was excellent, prices more than fair, great selection of wines from all over Italy and very reasonable prices. On our second visit they welcomed us like... More

On a recent Sunday night, my husband and I found a restaurant that turned out to be a local gem! When we arrived, we were ushered to a back room that was fairly empty. It quickly filled and many of the other guests seemed to know one another as well as the owner/manager. What impressed us most though was the... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
