The food here is really great and good value. The mixed starter was tasty and it was good fun trying lots of local specialities. I had possibly the best spaghetti carbonara I ever had (with truffles!) and my husband had a fantastic steak. We also...More

OK, whinge over first. I ordered a half litre of house wine and was advised they had commissioned their own "Brew". When the bill came it was 2.5 times more expensive. 18 Euro for half a litre of house red is eye wateringly expensive when...More

We walked in without a reservation and had no problem get a table for 4 as we came right at opening time 1930. Sat outside and enjoyed the peace as the restaurant is a little bit up a side street. Julia, one of the owners,...More

Family of 4 for dinner in the extremely picturesque San Gimignano. It was a good meal - pici, boar pasta, and a variety of other dishes, washed down with some local wine. All the food was good, but nothing really grabbed us as outstanding.

We ate here as a family a few days ago and it was fantastic. Local produce and a slightly different menu (not the place to come if you are only interested in bolognaise and lasagne). We are staying at the amazing villa owned by the...More

When you are hungry and manage to catch the last free table your food will taste a 10% better. This was the case, I wouldn't bother to write a review otherwise. It's OK, nothing remarkable to tell you in good or bad

Service was good, and food delicious. The pici alla carbonara carbonara with truffle were really tasty and rich in flavour.

Despite a reservation we were not treated very well. Very slow service, almost felt like we were imposing. Good food but not a great experience. Don't bother.

Description
The Renaissance banquets at the Medici court with game and vegetables of the lands of Tuscany come back to life in The Manger restaurant menu in the center of San Gimignano. In Via Mainardi in the stables of an ancient building, Susi and Paul Nannelli have recreated the atmosphere of other times, offering a cuisine that is inspired precisely by the ancient recipes reworked in a modern way: fillet of venison with vin santo and mushrooms, Wild Boar Remigio de 'Nannini and wild boar in sweet and sour sauce are just some of the unusual dishes to try for sure. The restaurant is run by Mrs. Susi who chooses only local products for the preparation of the dishes presented to guests with care even in appearance. Do not miss the Tuscan specialties such as Ribollita or pappardelle with wild boar, much loved by foreign tourists who visit the locale.Il restaurant is located in the historical center a few steps from Piazza Sant'Agostino in a living room with stone walls and brick arches ancients. The atmosphere is rustic and elegant and is eaten with a background in classical music. In summer there stands outdoors to enjoy in addition to the kitchen even the atmosphere of the medieval village. The management is friendly: the spouses Nannelli together with their daughters Annalisa and Giulia will welcome you with kindness and cordiality.
