I went with a friend after a meeting and in the rain and it was worth it. This is located in the downtown area of Basel with a number of other shops and restaurants. It is swiss but with a number of German and French selections. We both had the Steak Parisian and it was like a steak in Paris.... More

We selected this restaurant as we specifically wanted Rosti whilst visiting Basel. We had one Liver and one vegetarian and both were well good and nocely presented. Service was friendly and restaurant had a relaxed atmosphere

The food here is swiss, with this sort of weird turn on it that is the Schnabel part, I had a traditional rosti with ham that was good but not the best I've had. I really liked the atmosphere here, busy, wood paneled rooms that seemed to have plenty of locals in attendance. The desserts are a bit weird, but... More

We were actually looking for a restaurant we never found when we decided to follow two women into this restaurant. A lot of places didn’t start serving until 6, but seeing other customers we knew something had to be available inside and went in. We stood for a few minutes before anyone came out and, though the place was empty... More

Our group of four, have diverse tastes, but on a cold damp evening it was great to get a table at this popular restaurant. A friendly welcome, seats with cushions and a reasonably priced menu (for Basel). The food was good hot and tasty. I and a friend had the Rosti with beef, mushroom and bacon, my wife had a fondue... This restaurant was recommended by the Basel Tourism Office so we decided to try it out. We made reservations as that is common practice in Europe and I'm so glad we did. There were many patrons who came without reservations and were turned away. It's Christmas time and the city has its fill of locals and tourists wanting to try... More

Just ate here with my colleague after reviewing the recommendations. Outstanding!!! What a great place. Got lucky to get a table for two without reservation. Staff extremely friendly. We ate the faked snails (beef pieces in cafe de Paris sauce). Yummy! They came with fries which you can order more of for free. Considering that this is Basel, the food... More

What a quaint little restaurant. The food was fabulous. There were 8 of us all ordering various meals. All of us had great food. It looked good and tasted sooo good. Will definitely recommend to others.

First place we visited to eat when we arrived to Basel with my girlfriend. The staff was friendly, especially a blonde woman which I think she was the manager. You can find a good variety of dishes at the menu and you can get a Swiss/German/French taste depends on what you want. The food we ordered was very tasty and... More

we happened to find this local by chance. We had no plans, but this is an old traditional place with fine food. Decor in the tradition of the "Fasnacht" very special. What a hidden jewel. Can recommend to anyone.

The "Schnabel" is one of the oldest and most traditional restaurants in town. With its cosy atmosphere it is very characteristic for Basel and the place where locals meet. It is firmly ancered in the customs of this town and during the Carnival worth a look! It is well known for its good plain cooking and local specialities, fine wines and a large range of quality beers on tap. We speak several languages and have English & French Menus available.
