We came here as we wanted to try fondue and had read rave reviews about the restaurant. When we arrived the restaurant was empty minus two tables and were told by a grumpy waiter that we should have booked (restaurant was still half empty when we left) before being shown to a table. We were then told tap water have... More

Cheese fondue is a must in Switzerland. This restaurant offers an excellent one. The ambience is quite peculiar and service is quite straightforward. When we arrived we were told we could have the table only till 21.00 - even though we did not really see the rush in leaving the restaurant on time.

I was in Basel for business and was by myself for dinner, so I was delighted when I found that this restaurant would serve fondue for one (I've often found in the past that many restaurants serving fondue only do it for a minimum of 2 people). Very tasty it was too. Friendly service as well, so all in all... More

Do not go to this restaurant!! The prices are way too expensive, our waiter was drunk, food bad. Only positive thing is the smell of cheese, which can be seen as authentic.

Terrible food and terrible service. Served greasy, soggy, bad quality food. The food was so greasy and unappetizing that I had to send it back untouched and order an alternative. Funny enough, the bill came with one charge BUT it was for the more expensive inedible version that was sent back untouched to the kitchen. When asked why they chose... More

It is one of the most traditional restaurants in Basel, typical for its raclette (I always ate it) which is expensive but tasteful. Wine offer is very little. Service is fine. They speak several languages.

The smell of cheese smacks you in the face as soon as you enter this restaurant! We were seated upstairs having made a reservation several days prior to our visit. We shared fondue which comes with cubed dry bread and cost about 30francs each which left us feeling a bit cheated as we didn't feel like we'd had a 'proper'... More

On our overnight stay in Basle we decided to visit a 'typical' Swiss restaurant with good meat and sausage dishes, Rösti (the Swiss version of Hash brown, but yummier), fondue etc., what I would not usually cook at home... The Walliser Kanne was brought to our attention by one of our friends who lives in the Basel. It was good,... More
