One of my favorite spots in Basel. Good food, service and wonderful ambience. A must for all my visits to Basel.

Booked a table for 5 and arrived on time. The food was good but the service wasn't great...they kept us waiting for nearly 1 hr for our main course. We didn't go for starters so were getting a bit peckish. After asking when the food would be served they responded 'soon'. No apology for the waiting when the food did... More

At first glance this looks like a nice pick. Situated in a quiet spot, still close to the busy center of Basel, with the hilarious Tanguely fountain, the Barfuser Platz and the Barfuser church not far away, I felt welcomed by the warm atmosphere of this historic place. We were five but found ourselves placed at a table that was... More

The Violon just received the bib gourmand by Michelin. It is well deserved. The atmosphere is like a nice established brasserie and the food reflects the wonderful development of French cuisine. With good product and creativity : a diner is a journey to france/Paris.

Good ambiance in the restaurant; nice selection of dishes. We had starters, main and desserts. The mousse au canard was excellent, although the toast was too thick for this purpose. The fish (filet de dorade) was lovely, shame about the large serving of boring mashed potatoe (which had no flavour). The dessert (trio of creme brulee) was original and very... More

When you stay at Au Violon, you are in what was once a convent and later prison. But no spooky vibes. Just the opposite! The rooms are very clean, the staff affable and efficient. The rooms for sure are older--you notice it pretty quickly--but the rest make up for it. The hotel is nestled in small wooded area, above the... More

First time today with an group of foreign clients. Gosh, they were impressed with the starters through to desserts and coffee. I had the sea bream--skin crispy and so tender inside. Compliments to the Chef!
