This place has a nice concept: per course you can choose 3 dishes from a selection of 8 or 9. So 3 x a starter, consisting of 3 variations, so that you can taste it yourself, and that also applies to the main course and dessert. The portions are small but together they are more than sufficient. the dishes are sometimes surprising in themselves, but the combinations enhance that effect. They are tasty - not top cuisine! - and beautifully served. And you can also taste the wines. At the bar, you taste which wine you like and then order. The service is attentive and friendly, explains well what you get on your plate and makes you feel welcome. It's not really a cheap restaurant, but you can have a nice evening for around 120 euros. Give it to yourself!

Because we recently had to be in Apeldoorn, we immediately added a last minute visit to restaurant Spicebrush. We were there right after the restaurant opened. We were kindly received and the service, by numerous staff, remained good throughout the evening. We liked the concept of three dishes on one plate per course. The dishes were nice (certainly not too small) portions and tasted good. We had ordered one portion of French fries and salad, but in itself that was not necessary. There was a wide choice in non-alcoholic consumptions. The food may not have been quite fine dining, but it all tasted good. The price-performance ratio was absolutely fine.

In the heart of Apeldoorn a special restaurant: choose from about 10 dishes per course always 3 starters or desserts. They are then served as a tasting. Fancy a beer? Choice of an A4 sheet of separate bottle or draft beers. Wine? Go tasting and choose from 4 white, 3 rosé and 4 red wines. You will be served by super friendly and attentive staff and enjoy a wonderful evening. After all, you pay an absolutely fair price (and happily a well-deserved tip). Also for us vegetarian enough to choose, and everything very tasty. Highly recommended!

Arriving at 18.00 with a group of 19. Nice and friendly staff. Very fast in taking and delivering the drinking orders. But….. First tiny piece of bread arriving half an hour later, starters taking them an hour to present and main course presented at 20.45….small portions of food, very well presented and tasty but why did we have to wait for so long? Having a long journey home ahead, half of the group had to leave after the main, skipping the desert, included in the menu price. So, nice food, small portions, taking the friendly personal too long to serve.

The quality here is too variable. Sometimes you have a taste sensation, other times it is disappointing. The appetizers between the dishes were also minimal, 1 piece this time. Staff is well instructed, very neat. Restaurant has a good ambiance.

The quality of the food is fine. Staff does a fine job, but is quite distant. In our opinion, things went a bit wrong at the entrance and the guidance to our table. We sit for the entire meal next to an eavesdropping couple at a table within one meter of us. Another desired table is 'previously reserved by someone else' oh no 'for a regular customer'. But you can sit by the window! This method of approach is clumsy to say the least. The listening couple completes the slightly disappointing experience, despite the otherwise excellent meal.

I like the concept where you select 3 small dishes for the different courses, food har high quality but a place like this, I feel like there was a couple of small misses especial in the texture of the Lobster Bisque and the Prosecco Sorbet.. I would go again if I am in the area!

We were in Apeldoorn for a day, a Monday. The menu caught our eye immediately, and happily it was also open on a Monday evening. Things started off well, with a friendly greeting and the waitress taking out coats. When we asked for the wine menu, we were invited to the wine-tasting bar, what a great concept! You can try a sip to ensure you choose the wine of your liking. I had the Argentinian Malbec, and my partner had the Chilean syrah. Both were great. Then the meals: we both had the venison and quail starters, and I had the pumpkin soup, while my partner had the tuna. Everything was tasty, but the quail was incredible. As mains, I wasn't quite as lyrical. The gambas were fine, but lacked definition, no spiciness or acidity. The steak was a perfect medium rare, but I could not find the promised smoked garlic. The duck was very tasty, and the sauce was a perfect compliment, but it was cooked a bit too far for my taste. My partner agreed about 5he gambas, bu t he enjoyed his dorade and said the Iberico was very good. We both had the chocolate dessert, which was nicely fudgey. I also had the strawberries, which were almost savory and a nice contrast to the cheesecake, which had a good cookie to filling ratio and the coulis complimented the whole. To top everything off, when the waitress heard we had no tea in our Air B&B, she let us have a bit to take with us. That really is above and beyond!

Thanks so much for sharing your evening. Lovely to read that our team made you enjoy your evening even more. Sorry to hear that the mains were a bit less exceptional then your starters & desserts. Above and beyond is a compliment that makes us blush. Hope to see you again, Team Spicebrush de Proeverij

Despite it was busy on the Saturday evening (reserve in advance..), the staff was very welcoming and friendly. We got a brief explanation about the concept of the restaurant; several smaller dishes during each course. Our waitress could explain the specifics of each dish very well. Because she was not sure if some items were suitable women, she requested assistance from the kitchen bigrade. Very good, we think. The dinner was really very nice. We were very impressed by the starters and the dessert. Between the courses we were surprised with very nice amuses. This restaurant has eye for detail. The interior is stylish, but not too formal. The dishes are served in a nice manner. And everyone gets the right plate. Always. They clearly have a system or procedure, but as a guest this feels great! This was our first visit, but for sure not the last. Really thumbs up for Spicebrush.

We visited Spiecebrush de Proeverij for a dinner on Friday evening. It was quite busy but the way that the restaurant is organized it didn’t feel crowded. The interior is really well designed so it gives a feeling of intimacy although the place is quite big. But the real reason to visit this restaurant is of course the food and the concept of the menu - 3 small portions of different dishes per round, not to mention the little bites you get in the meantime as an „amuse-bouche”. In this way you can try more of the items but get quite filled up as well :) and the food is DELICIOUS!!! And the quality is definitely worth the price. In addition the service and staff is very friendly and really professional. Definitely worth eating there, highly recommended.

At Spicebrush de Proeverij you are able to make 3 choices for each course. You will recieve three small portions on one plate for each course. This may sound not much, but it really is sufficient! The plates are decorated very nicely with an eye for detail and the staff explain what the dishes are.

Fun menu with 3 * 3 small dishes, interesting mix, but you eat too much and combine meat with fish ... not really my choice. You can taste various wines before makeing a choice.

Visited around 5pm on a reservation on a Saturday, with 3 adults and 1 child. Spicebrush has quite a nice interior, dark in colors, and breathes a relaxed and quiet mood. We were seated at an unfortunate table right opposite the door. With a door just 2 steps behind you in winter, with new guest coming in every 5-10 minutes, it's not a comfortable spot. Especially since it's also the location where jackets and coats are being accepted and hung, so it's quite busy, chaotic and COLD behind your back. Even though at 5 pm the place was more or less empty, the first waiter seemed very busy and tried to skip explaining the menu to me. She rushed us to the 'wine tasting machine' and half-explained in a hurry which buttons to push. The 'wine tasting machine' seems put there to look hip or trendy, I don't know, but in reality it's a savings scheme to do without a decent wine-waiter to give you personal attention and advice. After pushing some random buttons, my wife and I settled on a red Finca La Linda Malbec. This € 7,50 retail-worth Argentinian wine tastes pretty solid and is sold by Spicebrush at € 23,50 a bottle, or € 4,50 a glas. We enjoyed the wine during our meal, each adult drinking 2 medium glasses during our 2-hour visit. Unfortunately the real quality (or lack of it) of the wine only reveals itself during the night: both my wife and I, seasoned wine-drinkers, woke up with a Linda-induced headache and semi-hangover. So the wine was only half a success; what about the food? We first tried to figure out the options for our child. The Spicebrush menu does not cater for young children. I had to ask 3 different waiters before I got an understandable answer and option: the first gave a mix of inconclusive answers, the second said he’d ask but never returned, the third brought the menu of the restaurant next door (!!!) which had a children's section from which we ordered fries with chicken nuggets. Then us, the adults, and now we get to the main part of this review: the ‘Spicebrush Concept’. In theory, it’s quite nice, sort of ‘Tapas-meets-6-plus-course-diner’. For your starter, main course, and desert, you’re expected to select 3 mini-dishes from a list of approx. 10 choices. So, basically, you’re asked to select one-third of the entire menu. Sounds interesting, in theory. I had quite a hard time trying to come up with a decent, balanced, selection of dishes that really appealed to me. So, I settled for: Starter = raw salmon + fried mushroom + grilled tuna; Main = tenderloin with blue cheese & PX sauce + cod with crumble + risotto with cheese cream. Yup, indeed…. that’s sounds a little TOO much, doesn’t it? The 3 mini dishes were served together on 1 plate. The dishes looked great, served with care and attention and an eye for detail. Nice colors, conveying a sense of quality. Unfortunately, non were really warm, just luke-warm at best. Then the taste. I liked the tuna from the starter but couldn’t eat the fatty fried mushrooms, which were exactly that: basic mushrooms deep fried in frying fat. From the mains, I was disappointed by all 3 dishes. The tenderloin was not very tender and very very raw, with no sign of the promised PX flavor anywhere. The risotto was a thick, fatty cream with a cheesy flavor and the cod was… cold. The main problem for me was having a raw tenderloin flavor at one side in my mouth and then trying to taste the cod. Or vice versa. It’s just mixing too many things at once. It’s really like forcing you to eat what could be a great 6-course meal in just 2 hauls. Nothing sticks out, all fades out into the next, nothing stays. It’s a nice try, good thing they try to innovate and be different, but for me it didn’t work. The best flavors I found in the ‘amuse’ appetizer which was a nice tartare with a hint of truffel and in the little bread which was delicious. They also served a spoom, which was meant well, but which was extremely sour and overly sweet at the same time. It took a little more than 2 hours to work through a 6-in-2-course meal. By that time, our child needed to go home and I had lost all appetite for 3 more mini-deserts. So, we declined desert, paid the € 135,- total sum and went home. So, what in theory would have been a 9 mini-course meal, ended in a disappointing and confusing 6-in-2 experience. The theory didn’t really work for me in practice. All seems honest and well-meant, care is clearly given to the dish, but in the end the concept defeats the purpose of simply enjoying decent food.
