Went here for good one evening and it was pretty good, however, the menu was a bit pricey and I take exception to being charged 75c for tomato ketchup!

Called in for a few mid afternoon pints to refresh our weary souls. It was in the higher price bracket for beer in Amsterdam and the beer wasn't great. It could pass as any bar in Ireland or the UK. In its defence, it had a couple of open fires and could probably cope with a bigger group.

Came here on a very cold snowy day and asked if they would play the Burnley Chelsea football match....the young Welsh lad put it on straight away. We were made very welcome and served straight away. Drinks were good and reasonable..he had to switch the football off at 80mins...in favour for some wired game called rugby..that is played with weird... More

A bit off the beaten track but well worth finding, great cocktails at reasonable prices (for Amsterdam) and a pretty cool & quirky layout

Took a break here, beer (for me) and coffee (for the missus) and got a nice spot by the fire. Score!

The Tara is very centrally located but not in plain sight. What I like about this place is the less commercial approach of this restaurant/bar/pub compared to any of the restaurants on Dam square, Museum square or Rembrandt square. It feels less "mass consumption" which is good. The Tara is also reasonably priced and the service is pretty good. I... More

We wanted to have a snack with our beers and we asked for a portion of fries. A bowl of fries costs 10 euros! 10 fricking euros and we received them cold and soggy and no sauce included in 10 euros. Service also a bit funny, they walk pass you many many times till you call them, and then even... More

Great hidden gem. I've been to amsterdam dozens of times and only came accross here by accident. Good food, really qwerky atmosphere. We were sat near the fire which was really cosy. I could just settle in and spend all afternoon sat there drinking....in fact, that's pretty much what we did.

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
