The lady in the restaurant was very nice! So the staff are lovely people. However the food was bad. The only good authentic foods were the olives and bread with butter. The lasagna was not even comparable to Italian lasagna let alone Portuguese. It was not fresh at all, and it had no taste. Furthermore the bacalhau was overcooked and... More

We had dinner at this restaurant. The location is in downtown, only in walking distance from the Central Station. The place is nice, quiet and clean. They served us well, warmly and quickly. We ordered chicken piri-piri and soup as they suggested us that it was the most favourite menu. The food were average, the grilled chicken a little bit... More

We picked this restaurant on the off chance - so good we returned the next evening Simple, well prepared and presented authentic Portugese style food. Staff very efficient and friendly. We ate steak , chips and salad the first night with a starter of olives and sardines - both delicious. The next night we ate spare ribs and lasagne .... More

Came on a Saturday night and nearly all patrons spoke Portuguese. You know it's authentic when the expats go there! The maitre d' greeted us in Portuguese and didn't speak English, but the waitress spoke English perfectly and we had no problems ordering. Typical Portuguese decor and menu. Started with the linguica assada, which was flambeed tableside, then I had... More

Myself and my portugees partner dined there last night. The food was authentic, well cooked, and served by attentive and smiley staff. Could not fault the meal. Would recommend trying this restaurant. Try the dourada and the carne de porco alentejana. Thanks to the polite portugees waitress that served us. Cheers/ Obrigada

I have been many times in Portugal, and this restauranr serves real authentic food and flavours from Portugal! I had the traditional bacalhou, which was very good, and my partner, the lamb in the oven, which was clearly prepared how it should, a long time, but slowely. Nice experience!

Looks good from outside, authentic, good location. Menu promises a lot, but some of the English translation is not accurate. I had the salt cod with scrambled eggs, menu said it came with curly fries and vegetables, it did not, when I spoke to the waitress it became obvious that she could not read English and she shrugged her shoulders... We chose this restaurant without prior research, close to Centraal Station, as we had a couple of hours free before travelling back to the UK. It's set amid numerous run-of-the mill places to eat in the Old Town, and we were attracted to it because of its different nationality menu. The decor inside is nice but a little jaded, and... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
