... steak sandwich of all time.. A couple of doors down from Amaterdam's Cheese museum, my partner & I found ourselves needing to quench our thirst. Anne Franks Haus had not been visited on account of a rather unresearched yet much required recovery trip fro December's demands. We walked into to this most charming and unpretentious of bars, duly ordered... More

We stopped by one weekend for lunch, unfortunately, we made a mistake in the choice of our food, we chose the nachos and we both felt they were the worst we have ever tasted, but on hindsight there were much better choices on the menu and why choose nachos in Amsterdam when there are so many other tastier options, the... I didn't like this café as much as I expected to from all the reviews. We first visited Café de Prins as part of a food tour and had the poffertjes. They were very good, lighter and puffier than the ones in North America. My husband and I returned for lunch on another day. As someone I knew had raved... More

If you're looking for a café that's used by local people and offers simple nourishing food, stop here. Beside a canal in a quieter part of the city in the Jordaan district. It's a typical "brown cafe" and where you would eat if you lived in the city. Tasty food at realistic prices. Lasagne, toasted sandwiches, scampi, steak, chips etc.

We found the cafe via Trip Advisor when we searched for the best poffertjes in Amsterdam. The dinner was great. We shared the flank steak with mushroom pepper sauce and fries. It was a very nice casual dinner. Unfortunately, we didn't get to enjoy dessert. When we ordered the poffertjes, the waiter informed us that they ran out earlier in... More

This quaint little Dutch cafe on the Prinsengracht canal directly across from the Anne Frank House has been a treat for us our last four visits since 2005! Our favorite is their sumptuous cheese fondue and incredible selection of wines! They also have a verry wide menu.

I have been here many times. A visit to Amsterdam isn't complete without lunch or a beer at Cafe dePrins. The food is simple and consistently good. The clientele is local which I always appreciate. Service is unhurried, in the best of Dutch tradition.

We were passing by and it looked good. The draught beers were tasty, but the food was a little below expectation. We ordered from the specials board and one meal was served only lukewarm. It was sent back and came back via the microwave! Nothing was said or done to compensate for having one of use eating while the other... More

Our tour guide directed us to this restaurant when we asked for a place to eat by the Anne Frank house. It was small but very quaint and inexpensive. The tomato soup was very tasty and the Ruben was outstanding. A small neighborhood atmosphere was very refreshing and very friendly service.

Staying in Jordaan

Neighbourhood Profile
One of Amsterdam’s most preferred outdoor markets and some of the city’s favorite watering holes are but two of the many reasons to save ample time for a stroll through this especially convivial warren of narrow streets with its unfair share of quirky shops and quality galleries. Historically a haven for the working class and emigrants, these days the Jordaan is better known as an enclave for artists and designers. As popular as the Jordaan is as a destination for locals and out-of-towners alike, the area never feels particularly touristy or overrun with outsiders. A highlight even for long-time Jordaan residents, be sure to accept any invitation to step within one of the area’s beloved courtyards or to have a sneak peek inside one of its many working studios.
