We were passing by and it looked good. The draught beers were tasty, but the food was a little below expectation. We ordered from the specials board and one meal was served only lukewarm. It was sent back and came back via the microwave! Nothing was said or done to compensate for having one of use eating while the other... More

Our tour guide directed us to this restaurant when we asked for a place to eat by the Anne Frank house. It was small but very quaint and inexpensive. The tomato soup was very tasty and the Ruben was outstanding. A small neighborhood atmosphere was very refreshing and very friendly service.

Such a delicious local brown cafe! Our group loved it so much we went twice! Do not miss the bitterballen or small pancakes! It is very small so there are not many tables at all.

This was our first dining experience in Amsterdam as it was near our rented apartment. It is a great spot in a great location along the canal and across from the Ann Frank House. We were famished. The food was acceptable but it took forever to order anything at all. The time between drink order and food was about an... More

Cafe de Prins is Amsterdam at its best - humble, no fuss, great atmosphere, economical and good hearty food. I had the house dish of the day which was a Merguez dish, you should be aware that portions in Amsterdam are modest but equal the modest cost. The atmosphere is truly a reflection of this wonderful city and anyone would... More

Combination of drinks, food, music and service (great bartender/waiter) made this my favorite in Amsterdam. Busy little placed when we arrived - got a little quieter as the night progressed. Loved this place.

A comfortable restaurant for a tasty lunch. Casual service, good sandwiches, unusual beverages. A good place to drop in during or after a walking tour.

Staying in Jordaan

Neighbourhood Profile
One of Amsterdam’s most preferred outdoor markets and some of the city’s favorite watering holes are but two of the many reasons to save ample time for a stroll through this especially convivial warren of narrow streets with its unfair share of quirky shops and quality galleries. Historically a haven for the working class and emigrants, these days the Jordaan is better known as an enclave for artists and designers. As popular as the Jordaan is as a destination for locals and out-of-towners alike, the area never feels particularly touristy or overrun with outsiders. A highlight even for long-time Jordaan residents, be sure to accept any invitation to step within one of the area’s beloved courtyards or to have a sneak peek inside one of its many working studios.
