Three of us ate here whilst in Brussels for a conference. Eating on expenses made the bill a bit easier to swallow, it's not a cheap restaurant. Helping the food down with G&Ts to start, a bottle of Sancerre, and a brandy afterwards brought the...More

I recently visited this place after wanting to come here for more than 20 years! I was not disappointed by the food or the service. The food is presented nicely and is cooked just right. I had one of the best cooked pieces of cod...More

We went there with friends for the Restaurant Week and had a dining menu. A big plus point - it was not a problem to adapt the menu for a vegetarian (the chef came from the kitchen to ask if his options were fine -...More

Typical Belgian restaurant with delicious food, in a nice area. As usual, the best recommendation were the various locals having dinner in this restaurant. Friendly staff.

We picked this little restaurant for a dinner during Restodays event in Brussels. I think the way a restaurant regards this event, since fixed menus during that week are considerably under priced, is a very good indicator of its overall quality. I would give La...More

I loved the small, cosy feel of this restaurant, but it also had a chic ambiance - which I feel is the perfect mix of atmosphere. We were 4 for dinner and the service was very good -- and the food was exquisite! Beautifully presented...More

Just had dinner @this restaurant. Had mixed reviews reading the reviews but still decided to give it a try. We were contemplating between the euro 45 menu or the a la carte and decided we wanted to try the different dishes offered so we ordered...More

The restaurant, located off the Place du Grand Sablon, is mainly worth while if you happen to get special offers - we had a three course dinner menu for €29, which was really good value.

La tortue du sablon never disappoints: from start to finish it is a ballade of inspiration from texture to savor, the chef transports you in another dimension of culinary experience. Each time I am going it is a new experience. Definitely will be back!

Pros: nice place in a nice area. The food is above average, with a touch of creativity. Cons: the service is slow and the wine card is poor

La Tortue du Sablon restaurant is a famous homarium, or lobster house, right in the heart of Brussels. A nautical theme prevails, and quite right too, with scrubbed wooden floors, the remains of huge shelled creatures on the walls, and a ship’s wheel hanging from the ceiling. Inside you’ll find an intimate, smart, white-table-cloth setting while the terrace in front has a jauntier, more informal feel. Wherever you sit, you can choose from nine different preparations of lobster including La Tortue’s own grilled version and a warm edition Parisian Bellevue style. Fish dishes in general are a speciality, though meat-eaters are catered for, and, unusually, La Tortue has a strong tradition of game in season, with creations like six-spice duck with ginger sauce. Special groups up to 40 are made very welcome here. French wine list.
