As I was staying in the hotel, I decided to give the restaurant's evening meal a try. It is an Italian-based restaurant based in Hotel Amigo right behind Grand Palace which is an ideal location. I was there on a Saturday evening whilst there was...an atmosphere the restaurant was not full. I was served by a couple of waiters and given the food and drinks menu. Price wise it is slightly on a higher side than your standard restaurant therefore I have set my expectation higher as well. The decor of the restaurant is fairly modern, with not much hint of it being Italian, it is also used as the breakfast area for the hotel in the morning which I have a separate review about the hotel. I found the servers to be efficient and polite but not friendly and lacking charm which is what I expect in a higher-end restaurant in a 5-star hotel. The menu is straightforward everything is on 1 page which I like. I had the beef tartare, mustard, seasonal salad (Tartare di manzo, senape, insalata di stagione) for a starter, it was ok, but for €30 I really expected more, and the beef is a bit bland, the mustard doesn’t have enough kick in it and the balsamic is not good enough. I would have rated it better if it was half the price. For the main I ordered the grilled octopus, pumpkin, stracciatella (polpo arrosto, zucca e stracciatella) I was recommended by the waiter to order a side dish as well so I ordered the potato purée with olive oil (purè di patate all'olio d'oliva), I just wasn’t in anyway blown away by the main or the sides. The octopus was edible, I found it a little tough, but the main dish including the potato is very heavy. The reason for ordering the dish is that compared with other dishes on the menu it doesn’t have these ‘creams’, ‘oils’ etc mentioned on the menu, but the octopus tasted like it was grilled in a pan of oil and the stracciatella was quite heavy, the potato was probably puréed in butter with some olive oil on top, the whole thing seem more French than I would expect with Italian. I had grilled octopus in Venice before and it certainly wasn’t like this. The pumpkin in it didn’t really taste like much, to be honest. For the mains and side course almost €60, it is a big disappointment. I thought to myself surely Italian is known for their dessert so I ordered the semifreddo aux amandes et au chocolat (amandel en chocolade semifreddo), yet another disappointment!!! Semifreddo in Italian means 'half-cold' or 'half-frozen’, there is nothing cold or remotely frozen about it, it is completely soft like a set cream with a runny chocolate disc at the base, so it tasted very much like chocolate and cream with some fruits on top. Overall, for the whole mean without any alcoholic drinks or cocktails, it was over at €110 which was a huge disappointment. The only commonality between starter, main and dessert is soft, everything is soft, soft and soft. It lacks any texture in any of the dishes e.g. crunch or difference in taste profile e.g. some sharpness etc. If I had not been told the cuisine of the restaurant and I was served the 3 dishes I had for dinner it certainly would be a surprise to me it was Italian. The tastiest part of the meal which is insulting to say was the cherry tomatoes and the olive bread I was served. I am not entirely sure the restaurant is a good fit for the hotel I was staying in. I have given it 2 stars rather than 1 because it wasn’t a disaster. This really isn’t a place I would be planning to come back anytime soon. As per my hotel review, I would stay in the hotel and eat your dinner elsewhere.More
Extremely overpriced. The food is fine, but honestly somewhat lacking in flavour. The service is mediocre. I’m at a loss to why this place gets such good reviews.
Ms. Madel and Mr. Claudio, long timers in Bocconi, always hosts me with a huge smile and geeat care like I am at home. Breakfast is the best in town amplified by superior service.
Bocconi offers a fantastic breakfast option, right in the heart of Brussels. Their buffet includes your choice of a la carte item from a diverse menu, plus many self-service selections (juice, bread, fruit, meats, cheeses, cereal, yogurt, and more.). The comfortable seating and attentive staff...complete the overall setting, and since it is located only a few steps from Grand Place, it makes for an amazing start to your day in Brussels. Pro tip: in the summer, they have outdoor seating!More
My recent solo dining experience at Bocconi in Brussels was an exquisite culinary journey that left an indelible mark on my palate. Arriving around 1pm, I found myself ensconced on their serene terrace, where a gentle breeze danced through and afforded me an unobtrusive view...of passersby, creating a harmonious ambience that was both cool and tranquil. Embarking on this culinary voyage, I initiated proceedings with the steak tartare, a meticulously crafted composition of flavors and textures that showcased the culinary prowess of the establishment. The interplay of the velvety, fresh meat with the nuanced mayonnaise and balsamic drizzle was a masterful symphony that resonated with each exquisite bite. As the main course unfurled, the veal chops emerged as a culinary triumph. Tender, succulent, and replete with a sublime depth of flavor, they were nothing short of a gastronomic revelation. Accompanying this opulent dish were sides of impeccably prepared fresh legumes and artichokes, testaments to the culinary finesse that defines Bocconi. The crescendo of this culinary concerto reached its zenith with the presentation of the tiramisu. A pinnacle of dessert craftsmanship, it unveiled a harmonious equilibrium of flavors, artfully restrained sweetness, and an unabashedly robust coffee essence that lingered, tantalizing the senses. Completing this gastronomic sojourn was the espresso, a fitting denouement that showcased the establishment's attention to detail. The seamless balance between acidity and sweetness culminated in an experience that was not just coffee, but an embodiment of refined taste. Throughout the meal, the staff, led by the affable Maître d', Madel, demonstrated an exemplary level of attentiveness and hospitality, further enhancing the overall experience. Their genuine warmth and commitment to ensuring a truly welcoming atmosphere guaranteed a level of service that was not only impeccable but also emotionally resonant. Bocconi unquestionably stands as a veritable gem in the Brussels dining landscape, a culinary oasis where impeccable cuisine, attentive service, and an inviting milieu coalesce. My culinary voyage at Bocconi has been etched into memory, a testament to its rightful place among the ranks of the finest establishments. I eagerly anticipate the prospect of revisiting this culinary haven and anticipate with relish the prospect of indulging in their famed brunch offerings.More
My husband and I went to Bocconi to celebrate our 30th anniversary. We have been there many times (and to several other Forte properties), including for other celebrations. We started the lunch with two tomato juices. The waiter dropped the glasses full of juice on...the table. By chance, our clothes and bags were not spoiled, but the table was a huge mess. After the careless waiter barely apologized for what happened, we moved to another table and continued the lunch. When receiving the check, I was surprised to see that the restaurant had charged us for the two cocktails, especially given the reputation of the Amigo. When I raised the issue, I was told in a firm way by the staff that they had already done us a big favor by moving us to another table! It is only after I insisted a few times and threatened to raise the issue with the senior management of Forte Hotels that, after the intervention of the deputy general manager of the hotel (who, however, did not come to greet us) that the cocktails were deducted from the check. More generally, the staff (always very professional and attentive in the past) made a bad impression and were busier talking (loudly) to each other than dealing with the customers (I could overhear other customers complaining). My husband and I were shocked by the whole incident, and I hope that the Forte family, who run the Amigo and the Bocconi, are made aware of such serious quality issues. In the meantime, Forte has lost a longtime customer.More

Roberto was so lovely, had a great lunch on the terrace. Sunny with shady awning, great food and wine as well. Great location!
Food was okay, surroundings very nice and service also okay- but not perfect. We found it too expensive, compared to what we got.
We had the pleasure of dining in this restaurant for dinner last night and the service and food were both outstanding…a great choice. We also had breakfast and, again, the choices and food was very good snd we had attentive service from the wait staff...and, in particular, from Gian Luca! All in all a special experience and if we return to Brussels again we will definitely stay at the Hotel Amigo and dine at Ristorante BoCConi!More
