Felipe the owner is very welcoming and sits and chats to visitors. Beautiful ancient building with cellar and vintage theme.

One of my favorites in Lisbon. A restaurant/bar that has everything. Good food and drinks, wonderful ambiance and decoration. Very nice staff. Not to be missed. This is Lisbon.

Right in the centre but far from the noise, a good option to have a rest on their comfortable seats, with a small "bica". Nice staff, not pushy.

Was tempted to go in because of the glowing reviews, but I sorely regretted it. I got served a small, tasteless cheese sandwich swimming in mayonnaise with a massive amount of lettuce as a side. The only thing that has stopped me from giving the place one-star is that the owner was friendly. Disappointing experience all round

Vertigo café is a cosy place filled with charms, a quiet and beautiful energy to discover when you take the time to melt into it's slow pace. Its painted ceiling, allegory to art-nouveau/art-deco, is the most characteristic attribute of the café and in combination with its mint-green-painted wall creates a surprising atmosphere of green light. The mediterranian and sipmle cuisine,... More

A very nice little coffee shop with lovely homemade cakes, a nice selection of local beers, and a simple inexpensive lunch menu. I'm really glad I found this place whilst wandering around Lisbon.

We were having a late, lazy day in Lisbon. We ventured to Chiado for lunch and stopped at the Vertigo Cafe. A complete delight. The menu is full and perfect for breakfast-lunch-brunch, an afternoon snack or an early dinner with lovely twists. The owner was very kind and helpful, recommending dishes. I had the vegetarian potato jacket, while my husband... More

I came here after looking for a quite cafe to sit and work with the laptop. While the coffee and cake was not that great, the place itself has very relaxed atmosphere and is great for sitting and working quietly with laptop.

Thank Lightmar

Staying in Chiado & Carmo

Neighbourhood Profile
Chiado & Carmo
The traditionally trendy "Chiado" (literally, "squeak", the nickname of a 16th century poet) offers plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars where you can stop for a cafe or cocktail, after exploring its streets, shops, art galleries, theaters, museums and viewpoints. It's also the home to the statue of the famous statue of portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa, having is usual espresso at "A Brasileira" as he used to. You can also enjoy breathtaking views of Lisbon from the Elevador de Santa Justa or the Carmo Convent, for example. A commercial neighborhood at its core, especially for its Garrett and Carmo streets, Chiado is to this day a mandatory visit in Lisbon.
