Founded by a Galician family and known for preparing one of the best cod dishes with grain from Lisbon, the restaurant João do Grão already has about 200 years of service. There you will be able to enjoy the flavors of the Portuguese gastronomy in two pleasant halls, in the middle of downtown Lisbon. In summer it is possible to... More

That place becamed our favourite, and we camed back to them every single day for lunch and dinner. Resonably prices, best quality for food and nice staff. The right one to choose on Lisbon center!

The restaurant is nice and have a good selection of seafood dishes but be careful when they put a basket of bread on the table. That is NOT complimentary, instead it is a ripoff that costs over FIVE euros (see the photo) !! Also, the Bacalhau a Bras I ordered had little fish and lots of potato and eggs. I... More

Excellent food! The English menu is touristy. Do yourself a huge favour and ask for the Portuguese menu. Sampled some amazing, clean, simple and authentic Portuguese cuisine. The service isn't bad either. Would definitely recommend.

Friendly staff ( though sent the Unrequested cheese and butter back!), great local liver, fantastic veal, friendly and efficient service - what's not to like - and as we have found all over Lisbon, don't need to spend big for excellent food experience.

It's been a tradition well preserved to go to this historic and emblematic place in the old quarter of this beautiful and ancient city! If you're looking for a meal cooked with the wisdom of our ancestors, this is it! Excellent staff and a great service.

An excellent and affordable place to eat very good Portuguese food. A traditional restaurant with a good menu and excellent wines to go with the food. You should try their salted codfish -- bacalhau, cooked to perfection here. Portions are generous. Share one dish if you want to eat dessert, always a good choice here. If you are afraid of... More

One of the classic restaurants in Lisbon, founded one hundred years ago by a Galician emigrant. The house special is codfish. My favorite is the "Cataplana de bacalhau", a codfish stew (like the french bouillabaisse). The "Cataplana" portion is generous so, one is enough for two. Another good choice is the "Bacalhau à Brás" codfish mixed with thin fries and... More

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
