If you are in Belem area at lunch time this is the place to go if you want a special lunch - but leave the back pack at the cloakroom as it is quite smart. Beautifully presented and flavoured dishes in a large room overlooking the sea.

This is a cool hidden gem. Decorated beautifully with views of Belem Tower and Christ and river. We had fantastic coffees and cocktails. They have a restaurant that I think would be stunning at night.

I would certainly recommend a visit to this restaurant, if your nearby. It is a great experience, combining an amazing location, amazing service, great decor with nice food. I would not say the menu is gourmet or very original , but the food is well prepared and savory. As for the price , it is on the expensive side however... More

Although it's a bit outside it's worth going there. We went after our boat tour cause it was in the neighborhood and we were hungry. The location is quite big and almost all tables were full ( it was lunch time and Valentine's and the restaurant is situated inside the Fundaçao Champalimaud ) with couples and business people. Despite that... More

I had a dinner in Darwin's Cafe. It was wonderful! Tge starters, the main dish and the desert was perfect. The salad was fresh, for main I had a salmon - one of the best that I tried ever. And for the deserts we shared several of those. All of them were great. The decor was magnificent, maybe during tge... More

I went there early January of this month with my girlfriend. We were looking for a good restaurant following our visit of Belem. What can I say about this place, other than it was freaking delicious. The food is ridiculously good, not too expensive, and cooked to perfection. The asparagus risotto with berries in it was simply incredible. Highly recommend!

Good service, great environment in the evening and uncommon dishes. I wasn't impressed with the pavlova dessert, but the wine was awesome!

I have visited Darwin's Cafe on a number of occasions on business and with friends. On this occasions with friends, who had booked it knowing that, currently, it is my favourite restaurant in Lisbon. This is due to it's modern and stylist feel, perfect location on the river in Belem and it's mix of appealing presented Portuguese and European dishes.... More

Staying in Belem

Neighbourhood Profile
Belem
Belém is the "capital of the Portuguese Discoveries" and a photographer's paradise. You can spend an entire day exploring this neighborhood: monuments (Jerónimos Monastery, Belém Tower, Monument to the Discoveries), museums (Coach Museum, Centro Cultural de Belém) and breathtaking views of the Tagus river will make your visit worth your time. Belém also offers a variety of restaurants and cafes, namely the famous - and delicious - "Pastéis de Belém" (typical Portuguese custard tarts; make sure you buy an extra box of those!). Easily accessible from Lisbon's historic center, Belém is a must-do, especially if you're spending more than one day visiting the Portuguese capital.
