I keep coming back to Café do Rio for the ambient, fantastic gourmet hamburgers (where there is no space for the traditional bun/bread!), and best nachos that I ever ate in Lisbon! Completely approved!

Went there with a reservation. The place opens at 1930 hrs and is full at 1935 hrs. It is popular. Nice and friendly staff and good selection of food and wine. We had a neighboring table with a big group who were noisy (they were having a good time!) so, we did not enjoy the conversation much. Other than that,... More

Unusual take on burgers. They are served without a bun. You get 2 served with a salad and the fries are great. Really enjoyed the Diablo and the vegetarian options are good too. Very friendly and helpful staff. Would thoroughly recommend.

A great selection of burgers, and some really interesting combinations. Reasonably priced and good service. I liked the decor inside and the food was very good quality. The starters were well priced (around €4) and the mains were around €10-15. I went for the Diabolo burger, which was hot even by UK standards.

The place is very well decorated and there is a piece of the wall where you can see the original structure which is very interesting. The owner is very friendly. I love the idea of the hamburger without bread. You have double burgers instead of bread. The meat was good and my veggie burger with mushrooms and beans it was... More

A great dinner in Lisbon! Everything from the delicious menu, to the great service, and the wonderful ambiance - makes this little restaurant a must for anyone looking for a great burger while in Lisbon. The food was very well prepared, the plating was great, and the taste - delicious. Make reservations, as this place is busy, and fills up... More

We went at lunchtime and found there was an offer - burger, two sides from a choice of chips, salad, rice, a beer and a coffee to finish. All of this was €8.90. The food was lovely - you actually got two burgers, a small one on top of a large one. Very good and only 100 yards from far... More

So this billed itself as yet another "gourmet burger" place. But it was brilliant - Genuinely unusual and gourmet. The burgers were served bunless with amazingly nice toppings etc. - The milkshakes were fantastic - I was travelling with a Vegan friend who was similarly delighted. - Really great service. One small mistake, but very effectively remedied.

It is a hamburger restaurant, and that's all it is ! But what they serve is heavenly. Not the typical burger on a bun, but plates full of creative combinations. The only dissapointment was that I only had room for one burger. If I could, I would have tried them all. The service was excellent, friendly, and the interior was... More

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
