the restaurant is very nice, stylish and comfortable at the same time. The menu includes some classics from the portuguese cuisine, but with a twist, and other mediterranean dishes. Good wine selection.

I went there cause the ny times recommended it in his travels guide and definitively I must say that after trying other restaurants in Lisbon (for example, SACRAMENTO) it is not the best one. The food is ok and the service too. Traditional food with a hint of modernity .The interior also follows the traditional Portuguese decoration. Awesome but I... More

Every time we visit Lisbon, this is the place were we return. Very tasty Portugese food inspired by the work of famaus Chef Jose Avillez. Mostly very busy, so you need to book in advance to avoid dissapointment!

We ate at this restaurant in both Lisbon and Porto, primarily because it has numerous vegetarian options and also meat for my husband. The better of the two vegetarian entrees I tried was the mushroom risotto, which was very good. The cocktails were also good. We also tried the light jarred cheesecake and the hazelnut desserts; the desserts were excellent... More

This restaurant has two rooms, one for the locals and a much less cosy room in another building, which they apparently keep for tourists. Being tourists, we were put here, with several arrogant remarks, I.e. that we were lucky to get a last chance to eat here. This is the first and only time we have met an unfriendly attitude... More

We went for dinner and were lucky to get a reservation at short notice. The food was very good and beautifully presented. The starters and dessert, especially, were excellent. The restaurant is very cozy, romantic also for couples. The staff are very attentive.

We reached Cantinho on foot, walking through the small streets around Chiado - that, by itself, is quite charming. Cantinho has a cozy, warm atmosphere and great food. The staff spoke fluent English and was very willing to help with our choices, recommending wines to go with our dishes, and suggesting that we take a 20 year old Port wine... More

This small, cozy restaurant with a casual and warm atmosphere was a real delight in our trip to Lisbon. The food was tasty and inventive. The service was over the top and really made a difference since we were celebrating our one year wedding aniversary and they made everything possible for us to have a great time. The wine and... My friends and I found a place for lunch in the centre of Lisbon, but unfortunately it was closed. We started walking and found this place. We saw the menu on the outside wall, liked the look of it and we decided to eat here. The interior I thought was nice and modern, with low music in the background it... More

6 of us ate here for my husband's birthday- fantastic food, service and atmosphere. Started with cocktails at the small bar (all in a row!) but moved to the larger room to eat, with view of kitchen. Extensive well- priced menu with homemade breads/ butters to start. Pre-ordered a delicious chocolate birthday cake.

Description
Located in Chiado, the Cantinho do Avillez restaurant welcomes you with a natural blend of the traditional and the modern. Quality is the priority with Chef Jose Avillez, and so nothing is left to chance. The cuisine, largely Portuguese inspired, is nevertheless influenced by travels abroad. The menu offers a wide choice of appetizers, "pregos" (steak sandwiches), entrees, main dishes and desserts, so that the gastronomic experience can be different at each visit. The service, which is pleasant and informal, contributes to the cheerful and relaxed climate.

Staying in Chiado & Carmo

Neighbourhood Profile
Chiado & Carmo
The traditionally trendy "Chiado" (literally, "squeak", the nickname of a 16th century poet) offers plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars where you can stop for a cafe or cocktail, after exploring its streets, shops, art galleries, theaters, museums and viewpoints. It's also the home to the statue of the famous statue of portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa, having is usual espresso at "A Brasileira" as he used to. You can also enjoy breathtaking views of Lisbon from the Elevador de Santa Justa or the Carmo Convent, for example. A commercial neighborhood at its core, especially for its Garrett and Carmo streets, Chiado is to this day a mandatory visit in Lisbon.
